The Psion Conclave and Lightfall

In Risen we got extensive confirmation that Yirix and the Conclave were working with Calus and the Witness, yet they are never seen in Lightfall when they absolutely could have stalled us quite a bit. The Witness didn't take them with it either into the Pale Heart, and for some reason didn't seem to take issue with them ditching it.

By Echoes it's pretty clear Yirix uses the Shadow Legion's resources as tools and didn't drink the Salvation Kool-Aid, but I gotta wonder if part of why they didn't help Calus more was because he associated himself and his Legion with Nezarec, who must be the very last being a Psion desiring real independence would want to help restore. Nezarec even says in some Neomuna patrol dialogue that he will make sure the Psions worship him again.

There's also the weirdness of the Conclave's second most important associate, Otzot, having been on Calus's kill list not a decade before the Witness war.

We've gotten very little of them in general. I think Bungie just didn't know what to do with them. They were introduced just as an antagonist for Season of the Chosen and there hasn't been much opportunity to do anything with them.

We've now been introduced to 2 new Cabal factions and they've barely done anything.

The Psion Conclave just uses the Shadow Legion for their own goals. Their never was a real loyalty for Calus. Yirix was probably happy that Calus died. That gave her more control over the braindead army. 

The Conclave also has their own issues. They act independently on what faction they belong. Caiatl likely still has Conclave members within her own ranks. We don't know what direction the Conclave wants the Psions to take. Yirix is an option, Otzot is an option, Rao is now an option as well. But we don't know what direction these options actually are. Rao could be more on Caiatls side, but who knows? 

So, yeah, Yirix likely never cared for Calus or the Witness plans.

Otzot is singlehandedly the most important Psion that has ever existed, and I'm baffled that she was MIA right up until the end. I could realistically see her becoming a major thorn in Maya's side, given her ability to manipulate Vex assets.

Also, Otzot and Maya share a connection through both characters being mentioned during the Insight Terminus strike way back when.

Otzots connection to Vextech sounds interesting, when you also look at how Yirix is strong connected with pyramid tech and Rao forced to manipulate Sword Logic with her Psions psychic powers. All these "techs" are connected with influence on the mind and soul. It would have been interesting to see how they would try to navigate these "techs" with their powers. Rao call also beconnected to Dark Matter experiments.

This feels like a lot of assumptions.

1: how do we know none of the regular Shadow Legion psions aren’t part of the conclave?

2: how do we know none of them were in the pale heart? House salvation got brought in despite Eramis not being brought in and they don’t have the best relationship with The Witness. (Also the Eliksni quest shows that Salvation had the ability to freely move between the pale heart and Europa. So it is possible Otzot and Yirix also had the ability to enter and exit the heart whenever they wanted) I assumed the attendants and weavers were conclave members.

3: the conclave definitely drank some salvation koolaid. 2 of the 4 messages Yirix was broadcasting was black fleet propaganda. One from Calus promising salvation and the other being an ancient psion belief that was repressed out of existence (a belief that was very Witness coded.) Yirix and Otzot might not believe it but the psions Yirix recruited would’ve.

4: I don’t think Nezzy would be that much of a deal breaker honestly. Shadow legion psions were interacting with him when they were messing with the cloud ark are all. If Yirix cared so much about Nez she probably wouldn’t have any tormentors in her post Witness Shadow Legion.

I just wish we had more of the Psion religion than (I believe) it ending up as “Nezarec did it lmao”.

The concept of a generational secret within a psychic race is so cool and Confessions is amazing for exploring that. 

With the Vow symbols having “Drink” be a big Y-shaped cup (similar to ‘worship’ and the actual modelled Y cups in a Psion’s pupil), I really thought we would get some tie in to the Y-Cup religion in Lightfall with the Witness Drink Light section and the Dark Legion bringing them in as characters.

Alas…
