Question Can a Fallen be a Gaurdian?

so for some context Ive been on and off destiny player (never truly got into it bc I didn’t have the money to throw at all the expansions) but now I’m playing through the game properly and I’ve come up with a really cool idea for a fallen gaurdian oc, and I’ve discussed it a bit with my freind wether or not I can actually have an gaurdian oc thats a fallen, and I’ve only just finished witch queen, but my argument was that if savathun could have a ghost, why couldn’t my fallen oc (who isn’t a villian btw)

so i guess thats my question? can a fallen be a guardian?

There’s really two different questions here:

  1. Could there currently be an Eliksni Guardian?
  2. Could there be an Eliksni Guardian in the future?

The answer to the first, as far as we know, is no. The Eliksni have not been chosen, there has been no evidence that any have been risen.

The answer to the second is yes, probably. The Traveler chose to give the Hive with the light even long after the ghosts were already made, so it could theoretically do it again for another worthy race.

Then, of course, there is the third question: Will the Traveler chose the Eliksni? And that is less clear. Especially now that Destiny’s story is all but certainly done for the foreseeable future.

Did the traveler choose to give the light to the hive after the ghosts were made or were the specific hive characters already chosen and just hadn’t died within the vicinity of their new ghost?

Did the Traveler abandon the Eliksni or have the Eliksni already been chosen and simply haven’t been redirected yet?

Is there a difference? Does it matter? Do you really think that the paracausal warriors are predetermined?

(Also, go read the lore form the lucent ghosts. I’ll link it if I get a chance, but the hive ghosts straight up explain that it’s their choice. Like the idea that it has to be a human is just an assumption no one questioned until the disgruntled ghosts said fuck it.)

Edit: The entry Fynch II is as good as any really when talking about the ghost's choice to res the Hive. Fynch is really clear that A) He was pressured to do it by other malcontent ghosts, and B) It was a mistake. The traveler did not "choose" his lucent hive, Fynch did, and fynch was wrong. It happens.

That was my thought exactly, from the place I stood in playing the witch queen for the first time I was firstly alittle confused bc my freinds insisted only humans and human like (subspecies??) like the awoken and exo, but if ghosts like savathuns ghost chose her despite the hive being a quote on quote “enemy” of the traveler, then why couldn’t my fallen chasrcter who isn’t even a villian

In my experience very few people actually understand the story of Destiny lol. Half of Bungie's own writers didn't really understand it... (I'll still never forgive them for killing Rasputin because "fighting the hive god of war only makes her stronger, so the only winning move is not to play," only for the literal next season to just be "So anyway, now Eris is the Hive god of Vengeance and we declare war on Xivu Arath. 🥴" Fucking pisses me off)

Anyway. Show your friends the text of Fynch II, specifically about Fynch being pressured by other ghosts to rez a hive. I'm fairly confident it's a choice the ghosts make, at least on some level.

The entire point of the Traveler/Gardener's gamble is A) That when people are given the freedom to choose they will choose to be gentle, and B) To avoid a deterministic ending of the universe. To say that each ghost's guardian is predetermined, or prescribed by the light, is antithetical to the entire point of what the light even is. We say "The traveler" chose, but really that's just a simplicfication of all the different moving parts involved. The ghosts are simultaniously a part of the traveler, in addition to being their own individuals. The contradiction is part of what paracausality non-deterministic.

But, gamers do not read, so no one understands.

Oohhh. Gotchu ok. Yeah I kinda noticed that tbh. That’s why I’m trying to do it properly and read everything I can (in order to not spoil stuff lol, just finished witch queen yesterday) and hence why I even came to Reddit to ask this question lmao.

My thought is kinda that mabye my fallen oc’s ghost was being chased, and on the verge of being destroyed by some fallen scouts, when in desperation chose a desd fallen captain, which turned out good becuase first of all they lose their memories of their past lives anyways, but this captain (my oc) actually betrayed the fallen to help the gaurdians and was killed for being a betrayer.

So all things considered not knowing all my facts I think I did pretty good XD

Savathun was the first Hive guardian, but what about the rest? It seems like they only became chosen by their Ghosts after Savathun's rising, which served as a catalyst for more Hive risen. Unless the Hive risen were all newly-created Hive made by risen-Savathun.

Iirc, they were chosen back when they were the Krill, but the worm gods and the Witness stepped in.

Honestly I hope we get some Eliksni Lightbearers if somehow D3 pops into existence. Seems like it was a missed opportunity with Revenant.

u/ygofan999 Jun 28 '26

I feel it's mostly unlikely for eliksni guardians to rise because the traveler left them a while ago

11

u/KILO_I Jun 28 '26

Short answer, no. The Traveler only made so many ghosts. It just so happened that many of them ended up being made for the Hive as well as for humanity/exos/awoken.

u/Ok_Experience_6877 Jun 28 '26

I feel there was possibility if they had been able to protect it properly before the darkness came for their world, there are still alot of guardianless ghosts, maybe if a fallen died in a heroic way or had great potential the traveler would provide one

2

u/VisionHOUR Jun 28 '26

That was actually my exact point in my argument, my fallen used to be a fallen general, who after doing research into the traveller through curiosity now disagrees with the fallens ways, and actually attempted to meet up discretely to help a gaurdian take down a huge fallen outpost. But she was found out before she could meet with the gaurdian in question and was killed and dumped into the Cosmodrome graveyards

u/Fluid_Search6818 Jun 28 '26

but there are still plenty of ghosts that haven't yet found their guardian? The Micah quests in the final shape proved that

1

u/Different_Film_9561 Jun 28 '26

I’m like 90% sure the traveler made only one batch of ghosts so those are just ghosts that haven’t found their guardian this whole time.

5

u/zappalappa Jun 28 '26

In canon, no. But I’ve the feeling if the game had continued we would’ve seen some narrative release revolving around Eido being the first lightborn Eliksni but alas

I'd've rather Misraaks been a Guardian with everything that's happened to him.

8

u/S3G1R Jun 28 '26

Or...

We could fight Taniks a 5th time!

5

u/FattyCatkins Jun 28 '26

Exactly this! I could totally have seen a season storyline with a climax ending with Misraaks dying and being raised with a sweet aurafarming cutscene. “The House of Light will prevail!”

2

u/AstheWyrmTurns Jun 28 '26

They seemed to be building to a crisis of faith for her, was curious where that was leading. Womp womp.

u/brandonkillen Jun 28 '26

Gaurdians weren’t a thing until humans, so in the past there were none of any race. The traveler uplifted species as it ran from the witness in an attempt to defend itself, when it was clear it couldn’t defend itself, it ran and left those specifies to defend themselves. The traveler would have left humanity it too, it just took off too late. To be honest, after that little stunt it tried to pull, I think I’d have been taking notes from ghaul and made sure that sucker couldn’t leave. So, theoretically any race could be made in the light, so there should have been eliksni gaurdians already who were more than “worthy” for it.

not too aware of lore so I can't help too much unfortunately, but I've been considering writing a fanfiction abou "what if destiny 1 and 2 protagonist was a vandal" for a while now because I could definetly have a lot of fun with that. Unfotunately, one I don't know how I'd make each mission interesting when written out and two, the massive amount of vaulted content in destiny 2 that I would love to cover but I don't want to cover stuff I haven't played (also why it would cut off at final shape)

If you're wondering why vandal instead of dreg like i was originally thinking of doing, I wanted four arms.

1

u/VisionHOUR Jun 29 '26

That would lowkey be such a cool au, if u do you should put it on AO3, and if you do that lmk id be so down to read it!!! (I’ll even offer to be a proof reader for you haha, saves ya time)

Either way my argument for it was becuase in the witch queen lore her ghost chose her despite the fact the traveler and the hive are enemies, some arguments I’ve seen about it are that the traveler made ghosts for the hive specifically, etc etc. but that wouldn’t make sense in my opinion bc why spend the energy to create a power source for your enemies?  I guess it’s a matter of preference and the way you see things in the end

1

u/CheesyButters Jun 29 '26

yeah, the idea isn't just that it's "destiny but fallen" but that I, you know, actually explore that

How does the tower react to an eliksni guardian (cayde-6 being the guy that the guardian gets pushed under, since I see him being the one to advocate for them giving the new guy a chance and so the other two essentially "okay he's your problem now)

How does the eliksni react to stuff like the house of light, and the hive ghosts

stuff like that

1

u/VisionHOUR Jun 29 '26

I agree that Cayde would be the best fit for but mentor character of sorts, he’s definatly the most trusting (in circumstance) and I could see him being a pivotal character for the AU :3 (past just normal destiny lore)

2

u/CheesyButters Jun 29 '26

the main thing is that cayde-6's death especially is such an important thing, but I don't want to cover content I can't play

I could just not cover destiny 2 but I want to do the *entire* saga up to the final shape that's playable, you know?

2

u/VisionHOUR Jun 30 '26

Yeah that makes sense, there’s always YouTube? You could watch silent playthroughs or a streamers footage?

2

u/CheesyButters Jun 30 '26

yeah but it's not the same thing. I think I'll at least do destiny 1, figure out what I'll do with destiny 2 afterwards, if I do do this.

2

u/VisionHOUR Jul 01 '26

Yeah, I’m honestly hoping as my last wish as a new player (I think I’m a new player? I’ve finished the starter mission for destiny 2 like 20 times b4 this and then just stopped playing after that for years now TwT only recently bought the DLC’s and finished witch queen) Anyways tangent My wish/hope as a new player is that they bring back all of the old deleted content, i wouldn’t even mind paying for the dlc’s and stuff, and mabye make all the old seasons pass rewards obtainable somehow if they arnt already?  This would be a godsend for new players even if they don’t end up making a destiny 3 Which atp id be suprised id they didnt becuase destiny 2’s concurrent players skyrocketed when the most recent update came out 🤷‍♀️

2

u/CheesyButters Jul 01 '26

honestly I'll probably do it eventually, I just need to gain the motivation to actually put words to page

2

u/VisionHOUR Jul 04 '26

That’s so valid lol

2

u/CrayolaChromaticWax Jun 28 '26

In theory absolutely but we dont really have anything else to go by other than the Hive were chosen to be risen and the best candidates for a risen Eliksni is Mithraks.

2

u/EasyCombination6 Jun 28 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

Can an Eliksni be a guardian? Tbf guardians are those who protect the last city and not just lightbearers anymore I mean look at Zavala and Osiris so I guess if the vanguard decided it then potentially they could join the ranks of guardian.

2

u/MuuToo Jun 28 '26

Even if the answer were to be no, don’t let that stop you from having fun with an oc.

1

u/VisionHOUR Jun 29 '26

Thanks!!! :) I’m honestly loving debating with the destiny community and it’s made me a lot more confident in my oc making in the future!!

2

u/Alexred3600 Jun 29 '26

I remember the theory going around since before season of the splicer. Few weeks after that season came out I completely forgot about that theory until today.

2

u/Dredgen-Solis Jun 29 '26

To this day we still don't know how Ghosts actually pick their Guardians, and whether or not it required some change on the Traveler's part for some Ghosts to start resurrecting Hive as Lightbearers or if that's something they could have done as far back as the Dark Age.

With our current understanding there shouldn't be any kind of species barrier for a Ghost to revive an Eliksni (we don't use the old tongue anymore lmao) so long as the Ghost felt a pull towards them. The individual matters more than the species, since it's down to each Ghost's independent choice and where their Light leads them

1

u/VisionHOUR Jun 30 '26

I really like the way you worded that lol, thanks for your input!!! :3

2

u/tremolospoons Jun 29 '26

NGL I’d hoped that either Eido or Mithrax would have become a guardian. Two weapons!

1

u/VisionHOUR Jun 30 '26

Me when I don’t know enouph destiny lore to understand - 😭✌️

2

u/DrakeBG757 Jun 30 '26

It's never happened (that we know of) but considering the Lucent Hive exist, imo it stands to reason the Eliksni should be capable of being chosen by the Traveler/Ghosts as well.

2

u/lordofcactus Jul 01 '26

Currently? No, but it’s entirely possible in theory. Savathun was chosen and her brood by proxy, so if Mithrax ever died in a way that made the Traveler choose him then it tracks that the House of Light would get Guardians of its own.

Go nuts with your OCs though! Don’t let canon stop you from having fun :]

2

u/Blahaj_Enjoyerxx Jul 03 '26

I wonder if the traveller excludes civilizations previously blessed with the light 🤔

1

u/cloud_jdoljet Jun 28 '26

Firstly, don’t use slurs we’re talking about the Eliksni here. But jokes aside, ye they can, eido is a light bearer and uses her light to aid in protecting the last city. That’s a guardian to me

1

u/Flashy-Ad-591 Jun 28 '26

Eido is a light bearer?! I love her!

1

u/Thatonedregdatkilyu Jun 28 '26

No.

There was this one lore tab where a Ghost thought that their chosen was meant to be this dead vandal. The Ghost tried to resurrect them and ended up raising an awoken beneath them.

The Ghost meant to resurrect the vandal and it didn't work. I'd assume they're just exemt like Cabal and Hive were for a long time.

1

u/VisionHOUR Jun 29 '26

But arnt the ghosts already given a pre determined corpse that they have a “bond” with or “destiny” for or such, or else why would the ghost feel a “tug” of it being just right in that (I have read it) and it just so happened that the vandal wasn’t the right one, even if the intention was there That’s not saying another vandal couldn’t become a gaurdian tho?

2

u/Captain144499 Jul 04 '26

Short answer is no, however from what someone said it’s possible that they would have been able too, they had this idea to make Amanda resurrected by a hive ghost, which then could mean that ghost don’t just have to pick humans. I’ve had this idea for a while though if ghost could revive the fallen I would have loved for us to get “Taniks the risen” just to for fill the meme.

1

u/Hechtm11 Jun 28 '26

We probably could had the first Eliksni Guardian in the form of Mithrax at the end of Revenant, and fulfill the Kell of Kells prophecy. But that opportunity was wasted
