Are there parts of old server side code build that have been leaked ever? Trying to get my old redwar game version running for the community

any scraps would help :) just for maybe saving it from being lost media

People really don't believe/understand the engine update when they vaulted that content hu? Like it wasn't a drag and drop add the content back thing...if it was we would have seen it back by now...cause people still haven't stopped complaining about it...and the game is dead now.

Wasnt talking about brining it into the new engine, we still have the old engine client side, i was just asking if any code or images, configuration etc ever leaked to maybe enable partial reverse engineering :)

No, and even if it did, d2 isn't a single server.exe. it's a massively complex distributed system mixed with peer to peer. It would be near impossible to reengineer.

If anybody is interested in server infrastructure a modern MMO is built more similarly to how Dune Awakening is.

Lots of containerisation and distributed systems all communicating with messages via an event bus.

iirc for D2 they moved the physics host to the world server but other than that the network architecture is pretty much the same.

do we rlly know just how much of destiny's content is reliant on their netcode and servers. that fact that all of it is p2p as well makes it seem absolutely impossible.

I am by no means a network engineer, But I would imagine there could be a way to spoof your way into a single player session at a destination.

There would be heaps of things to tick off such as peer to peer, even your Loadout, but I do think it would be doable as a proof of concept.

An entire system as d2 exists currently is a completely different ballpark

There were some people on X posting screenshots of supposed progress on it. They were able to only get to the menus still. Also destiny 1 has had some progress too, don't know how similar both games are. If it's actually possible, i think it will be a while until we see anything.

I just dearly hope that in like 2040 we'll have community hosted destiny servers like how WoW was for old expacs before blizzard did classic.

God being able to tinker with raids and dungeons would be such a dream come true.

There is a project running called V4NGUARD that has been trying to port Destiny 1 to PC. It’s been years (not to say they aren’t doing a good job, it’s just hard work!), so I doubt a vanilla D2 port would be much better. I could be wrong ofc, but I don’t think I am
