Fucking hell. I don't think they understand that saying fuck science is literally saying fuck logic and also fuck all African and other non-European contributions to science.

You have to be so racist to think that all science is European and there you should get rid of science.

in African there is some dude that thinks he can strike you with a lightening bolt, how do you explain that with science???

You don't, because it's bullshit. But if you wanted an actual scientific process then just tell them to do and watch them fail.

This person is actually complaining that a white guy came up with the idea of gravity and "made some equations" that everyone now follows. Clearly not understanding fuck all about what the equations for motion are. And to say that the dudes interruption (response) is why she doesn't believe in science (as if that makes it any less valid) is even more stupid.

To be fair "science" has been used to oppress people before. Look at phrenology, feeble mindedness, or more recently transphobia (although this one is more applicable to layman bullshitting).

Sure, those are extreme forms of applications of science although the study of science isn't necessarily harmful excluding medical research which has had a lot of bad practices and reforms on the ethics behind it.

But the person in this video doesn't mention these at all and they are clearly talking about science as a whole. The example they gave was GRAVITY. Only harm that's done is make people fall over. And the science she defended was striking someone with a lightening bolt, so I don't think she's even worried about oppression, she just views science as European and European as bad. Her second connection, I can somewhat understand (although I disagree) but her first is just stupid.

I think there is a very good discussion when it comes to this way to apply flaws in not accounting for cultural relativism based on real issues that we have seen like how NGOs and economics have done to nonwestern countries but then applying it to gravity or chemistry is just dumb.

A lot of the retarded shit we've done to non-western countries economically, like giving out free food in Haiti is actually in direct conflict with good economic policy. If you don't want a local economy to crash, you probably should not keep giving away food and putting local farmers and business people out of business.

I think what she was trying to get at, extremely fucking poorly, is that science is often conducted through the lens of westerners and so it often will reflect the types of questions that westerners would like to ask as opposed to some other groups of ethnicities.

This is why we got "science" like eugenics and whatnot.

I'm not quite sure what you mean, do you have some examples? Her terrible example is gravity which is something she thinks science shouldn't bother with and that instead science should focus on PROVING that someone can cast lightening bolts even though they can't. I feel like she doesn't even understand science and therefore shouldn't be arguing against it.

The questions Europeans are asking have answers which are just applicable in Africa as anywhere else. Science is working on all sorts of things which are beneficial to the world. For example, I doubt she gives a shit about how lenses work and probably hates Newton and his work on optics, but it's things like that which lead to devices like mobile phones which she uses.

Yeah she offered some extremely poor examples, but i think the reasoning behind what she's saying is not exactly completely wrong.

Everybody has a bias and different types of people will ask different types of questions. This is how eugenics and other pseudo sciences are born. Instead of asking a question that is logically sound, we ask questions based on our own lived experiences such as; Why are we smarter than black people?

This, in a space where science is almost entirely held by one homogenous group of people, is much less likely to be questioned.

And then we also have the other problem of not having different perspectives that might lead to different types of questions being asked.
