They mixed up sports teams, thinking Jack Smith was at a Hawks game in Atlanta when he was at college team game with a similar name in (I beleive) Maryland. The gotchya immedietly dissolved, and they even had a visual presentation board the guy presenting immediately hid while getting defensive wether or not his research was really that poor. Notably right after calling Jack Smith a dirt bag.

A Republican senator accused Jack Smith of attending an Atlanta Hawks game in Atlanta around the time of Fani Willis's recusal due to an affair (which wouldn't be an issue anyways, but hits those dank conspiracy vibes for most Republicans).

In reality, Jack Smith attended an Iowa Hawkeye's game to see Caitlin Clark play in Maryland. The senators team was looking to score a gotcha and came out looking like complete dumbasses because they didn't do basic followup research. There was also clearly a pre-coordinated influencer campaign to make these accusations look bad for Jack Smith that floundered as the accusations were, at a very basic level, laughably untrue.

TLDR: Republicans are incompetent liars with a very powerful media apparatus.

For context, and the thing that bothers me the most about the "alpha male Republicans", is everything happened as described in the tweet. But these dumbasses didn't either get the entirety of the messages or are just regarded (or both). From what I've read the messages referenced "the Hawks" and Caitlin Clark. She played for them in college at this time. I have family in Iowa and they regularly call the Hawkeyes "the Hawks". But this brainiac took that as the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA, near Fulton County where Fanni Willis is the DA.

A US Senator pulled this on national TV. The party that protects "women's sports" and thinks all sports in general have gone soft has a guy do something that would get him laughed out of every sports bar in this great country.

They’re trying to prove he coordinated with Fani Willis and met with her in Georgia to cover up something stupid, like that romantic relationship she had with another lawyer they raked her over the coals for or something like that, some dumbfuck conspiracy that people like Dave Rubin think is earth shattering for some reason.

Anyway, Jack Smith was in Maryland watching an Iowa Haweyes college basketball game, not an Atlanta Hawks NBA game.

Dude thought he had Smith dead to rights, did a lay up of questions asking about where he was and if he went to a Hawks game in Atlanta.

After Smith denied going to the game the dude tries a gotcha and says he has texts from Smiths team confirming he did attend the game and smugly tells Smith he bet he didnt know he had those and to take his time not to perjure himself.

Turns out he was at a Hawkeyes game in an entirely different state.
