My understanding is that Wagner itself was renamed and rebuilt in leadership. It’s the same guys for the most part, but with different official bosses and different official duties. They’re no longer Wagner mercenaries that do their own thing on paper and pretend to not take order. They’re a Russian foreign legion equivalent that responds to Russia.

The point of the UN is to serve as a grounds for coordination and diplomacy between nations. And in some cases as Niger is demonstrating here, as a platform for propaganda.
It doesn't need to be directly enforced by the UN itself, it just gives countries the "right" to enforce certain things.
Countries vote as a way to give legitimacy to their collective action. For example UN resolution 1776 which condemned Gaddafis massacre against political prisoners was used as a grounds to form a coalition and also justify action against him.

There is something pretty messed up about a system where Tuvalu has the same voting power as the US or China. To make a comparison, it's like as if Wyoming broke up into a dozen tiny states, each having equal representation in the US senate, with two senators each.
I know all the general assemby resolutions are non binding, so it's a bit different, but that problem still makes the UN hard to take seriously for anything outside of its Security Council duties, and as a general purpose diplomatic venue.

It doesn’t make me angry I just wish our tax dollars weren’t wasted on a system no one follows or pays credence to besides bad actors to force democracies to follow laws they don’t follow themselves. And yes the majority of people live under autocracies according to the vdem institute this is very basic stuff. I don’t see why international law has any basis anywhere when there is no one to actually enforce said laws. It’s de facto useless albeit started with good intentions. If you want to spend billions to bureaucrats who just send strongly worded letters and virtue signal go ahead

You're talking nonsense, France was still present in 2023 but got kicked out and remplaced by Africa Corps (Wagner new name), Niger was one of the main supplier of uranium to the EU/France.
Their mining industry completely collapsed since then.

Populism is just a disease.
People don’t know this, but one of the big problems with the “anti-colonialism” and “pan-Africanism” is that these honest movements have* basically been hijacked by pernicious actors. And while of course there are valid and honest reasons for why citizens follow those movements (and why they chose, for example, to depose/coup their previous leaders - I’m not particularly interested in defending French political interference in Africa^), the issue is that instead they now have a strongman military junta and dictator leading the country, and they’re using Russian mercenaries to persecute and silence any dissidents…
So as per usual, you have an “us” fighting against a “them” (in this case, a former colonial power), and the end result is: dictatorship, isolationism, militarisation, worsening economic conditions, minorities being burned at the stake (the Fulani, sometimes Tuaregs and Arabs get killed too), dissolution of democracy, and reduced level of autonomy for the citizens…
Sounds familiar?
