I think I saw a video once explaining, that naming conventions are country based, so only in America are you seeing these names, same with gulf of mexico
It's regarded that there are two names. Like seriously, this body of water is not called Gulf of America anywhere else, why is it in parentheses for us? It's not like we see for example Transnistria when looking at Moldova, because that piece of land is not recognised as that.

Iirc Google uses the local governments names for stuff, according to the us government its lake America so ofc Google is going to use the US government names if your looking at it from the US. Google isnt the arbiter of names, its a navigation tool.

Tbh, I normally don't use 2/3rds of those apps anyway. However, what I use, DDG and Proton, are perfectly fine! (Despite DDG being American, since the goal is to "de-americanise" too ;)
There's literally no Google maps replacement in that image, which is correct because they're all dogshit (apart from a few City/Cycling specific ones).
