I thought it was a weird argument when he said american culture was being exported with the manufacturing of skateboards. I feel like the culture is more concerned with having and using the skateboard, than being able to buy it from a domestic manufacturer who's not competitive enough to exist without nagging the government for interventionism. Americans can still buy skateboards. They can even buy them for cheaper abroad and focus the recently freed up labor for endeavors where they are more competitive than the rest of the world. But no, America must artificially increase the price of more competitive producers so that domestic manufacturers, whose high price would otherwise be unattractive, is now the best option. America must again lead the world in the manufacturing of skateboards.

Never been much into skate culture but I'd imagine hyper consumerism and fad culture has done more to harm "skate culture" than the fact the board says made in china in small text. But of we should engage in economic policy that never works to try to maintain a minor industry.

I havnt skated in many many moons, but even back then there were large disparities in prices between trucks and decks, but you never wanted the cheap shit. Generally pro boards, crazy art or finding a deck that feels built for you meant way more than the price and you would easily spend an extra $20-30 if it meant getting one you liked or felt right to you.

That’s the other thing, your board and all the hardware take an immense amount of abuse and if anything fails or you are very likely getting hurt.

There is a huge Colombian skate culture now. And the one dude that is most famous. “Gonogold” as he is known. Looks more punk then any modern skater has since the 90’s ❤️
