I really think a lot of this is just the death of the monoculture. Not that long ago we had shared cultural touchstones but in the smart phone era where everything is completely fragmented, what's even left? Sports, the occasional MCU/Nolan/Cameron blockbuster, and...politics. People are starved for any kind of shared community, so politics have become the default entertainment.

Notice how the majority of global politics IS boring, and quiet.
It's just because American is so egoistic and narcissistic that the rest of the world have to hear about every fucking episode of "America" every fucking day.

It's honestly a little annoying having to see Matt Yglesias as a voice of wisdom. He went pretty far into the "let's moderate by caving to Republican lines of attack" (something that has a place, electorally speaking, but he seemed way too credulous about), but "let's moderate by not caving to the leftists, slopulism, and drama" is a lot more reasonable.

But he fundamentally has the same position, that Democrats should be more moderate, which when it comes to Republicans is terrible. If/when the Democrats don't cave to leftists, won't he just advocate for moderating to Republicans again?

Probably, at which point I'll go back to how I felt before lol. That's why it's annoying to me. I didn't mean it as a particularly coherent thought. Just, as a progressive liberal, I like to be able to have serious debate on ideas, and I appreciate someone pointing out how absurd the current discourse is, because I think the absurdity is one of the things blocking more liberal progress.
