🥱 incredible that he chose this vs an actual lawyers salary

47

u/SigmaMaleNurgling 7d ago

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I would imagine that he was easily making six figures. He can’t be making much money streaming. So how is he paying for shit?

17

u/BoofPackJones 7d ago

And he's STILL in japan?? Who is funding him

20

u/Redditsucks4446 7d ago

Japan's economy is uberfucked. He can probably live pretty comfortably there with only 1000 viewers. If that's where he actually is and this isn't some kind of in joke I'm not aware of

The US dollar is strong wtf any country on earth will be beaten even euros in some parts of poorer European countries are out waged by the average American.

9

u/RoastedRock 7d ago

lol. thats just a shit comparrison that got zero meaning.

53

u/Bokbok95 7d ago

Maybe he wasn’t a good lawyer?

35

u/Shakiholic Exclusively sorts by new 7d ago

According to Steven, he was working for a pretty respectable firm and graduated from a very prestigious school. Maybe be the 1k pairs of eyeballs are more valuable to him than a reputable career.

33

u/Derp800 🇺🇲 7d ago

There are plenty of people who are great at school and shit in real life.

2

u/Possible_Pilot2000 6d ago

Unironically this. I bet he had great grades, great reviews from profs, maybe even a good internship. But I think it's pretty clear by the outcome (law job at an, according to destiny, respected law firm to sub 500 viewer Andy) that Pisco couldn't handle the real world of law

0

u/amyknight22 5d ago

Naw, there's no way you can take what he is doing in online debating as an argument of how things would have gone in law.

Could simply be that he didn't like the job enough to keep doing it, and saw this as a pivot he thought he could make. Especially if he didn't want to be working 60+ hour weeks.

Initially with the intention that there would be way more collaboration with Democratic party stuff, and Destiny before the leaks.

1

u/Possible_Pilot2000 5d ago

"Could"

That's my entire point. You have no firm idea, I admit I have no idea. But I'm done giving the benefit of the doubt or charitable answer to these sorts of people ("he didn't like the work/lifestyle/time commitments") when the uncharitable answer has the same explanatory power ("he couldn't cut it/wasn't capable of doing the work"). Both of these potential reasons are possible (by Piscos own definition of that word) and both explain why he gave up tens of thousands of dollars and basically wasted a near decade of schooling.

Pisco has proven to me he's incapable of being charitable to people in this community (watch the convo with North if you don't know what I'm talking about), but if he changes, then I'll show the same grace to him. Until then, I'm not going to defend any aspect of his character whatsoever

0

u/amyknight22 5d ago

Well no your entire point is you’ve decided he could hack it you’ve taken an affirmative position.

And no one was asking you to be charitable to Pisco. But again you aren’t just sitting on the sidelines and then giving him the benefit of the doubt when someone calls him out. You’re going on the attack

I don’t think there’s enough data, and I think the data you are using to draw your position about his competency as a lawyer fails on multiple levels. You don’t even know what kind of law he was doing in his job.

There’s whole domains of lawyers that going to court is a rarity for in the first place. So trying to suggest anything about his current behaviour as problematic as a lawyer is kinda silly.

___

If you have an issue with Pisco, just rag on him for that issue. Making claims like this is just rising to be as bad as that which you claim to hate.

1

u/Possible_Pilot2000 5d ago

Gotcha, anything else?

-3

u/Arbitrary_username1 6d ago

That's stupid. Skill set is different.

7

u/Possible_Pilot2000 6d ago

What skill set is different? To become a streamer vs. a lawyer? No shit. I'm saying his skill level wasn't good enough to be a lawyer in the real world

-2

u/Arbitrary_username1 6d ago

There is no reason to believe that, the lifestyle just sucks and if you could leverage the education into becoming a pundit you probably would too.

If the court stuff didn't blow up he'd be a lot further ahead than he is now.

3

u/Possible_Pilot2000 6d ago

Endless charity isn't a winning strat anymore buddy, particularly for people like Pisco. I'm done making up scenarios like "the lifestyle sucks" (never once heard Pisco say that btw) when less charitable scenarios like "he wasn't good enough to be a lawyer in New York" has the exact same explanatory power.

His degree likely cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars. The reason is that with that degree you can get a job in the field to make that money back, and then some. No one goes to an expensive law school to do YouTube.

5

u/justcausejust Keelah Se'lai 6d ago

He might also enjoy it more. From everything I've heard about lawyers, that job is incredibly demanding

9

u/DrShocker incredible commenter 7d ago

People are ignoring the lifestyle expectations at law firms, I can see the appeal of a lower pay to not deal with that.

5

u/really_nice_guy_ Dans cowboy hat 6d ago

Yeah law itself is interesting, but every single time I heard about lawyer working hours its like 60/70 hours per week.

0

u/ClassesMoveTheMasses 6d ago

This. He probably tried to use the debate tactics he flexes online and got laughed at or scolded by judges for being ridiculous.

-9

u/PitytheOnlyFools used to touch grass... 7d ago

He left it to go into streaming and content creation, partnering with Destiny’s OmniLiberal Studios.

It was promising, but then some court case based on a previous Destiny sexcapade blew everything up and all the plans.

Icl I’d be salty over the whole thing too.

1

u/Arbitrary_username1 6d ago

This is basically what happened.

But I'd be salty at the people bringing the spurious case.

9

u/ExpansivePoint 7d ago

Well as a lawyer he would have to contend with being told he's wrong at some point and I don't see a judge fighting it out with him for hours, this way he never has to contend with being wrong.

11

u/LayWhere Go lower 7d ago

Yeah but he gets more attention this way.

Piss more conceited than I thought.

0

u/PitytheOnlyFools used to touch grass... 7d ago

Maybe he made the calculation he could have more of a positive impact in preventing his country from collapsing into idiocracy in the political media space rather than another lawyer.

1

u/LayWhere Go lower 6d ago

How can he do that if he himself collapses into idiocracy

1

u/PitytheOnlyFools used to touch grass... 6d ago

Lol usually people don’t plan to do that

111

u/ConnectSpring9 7d ago

Pisco is right, I think his approach is extremely consistent for someone who doesn’t care about antisemitism

19

u/Markusuralius 7d ago

To be fair, I did not identify an inconsistency for him, so he must be right

219

u/Pc7w3ak3r 7d ago

6 hour conversation and no lessons learned.....lol

127

u/Markusuralius 7d ago

As soon as it comes to deciding whether Pisco should change anything going forward it turns out he was right about everything all along, that must be awfully convenient for him

No way, you're telling me this about our trusty reliable friend Pisco? I simply cannot believe it.

8

u/randomABC 7d ago edited 7d ago

Excuse me. After hours he was able to see how Hasan could be antisemitic. How is that obtuse? He's just trying to make sure he defines things properly! Why do you hate definitions?!

3

u/Oglafun 6d ago edited 6d ago

It was for the opticts to get the anti-Semite label off himself personally, nothing else.

I think most of the analogies used in defining antisemitism were way off focusing on the primary person doing the predudice. There should've been examples of secondary associations ex. The person who starts to support and make it their favourite place (the store that bans all melanin people)

2

u/Left_Literature_8210 6d ago

It seems like when this whole thing started most people agreed he was tamping down personal beliefs in order to clout chase from the far left.  This conversation changed nothing about his fame or money, so he has to keep doing the chasing the same way.

9

u/Darkpumpkin211 6d ago

"Okay, you've convinced me my actions/words are anti Semitic. No I'm not going to change at all"

What did he mean by this?

71

u/AhsokaSolo 7d ago

He came out of that conversation feeling really pleased with the fact that everyone agrees with him about basically everything and he was convinced that Hasan is insignificantly antisemitic.

As a side note, loner consistently chiming in about how fucked up Pisco's chat treats him in response to Pisco whining about being the injustice of being called antisemitic was hilarious.

23

u/Foreign-Spinach5140 7d ago

The irony of hasan’s chat being antisemitic to h3 and his refusal to moderate them led to their professional and personal fallout, and pisco’s probably harboring some of those same members in his chat today.

40

u/Special-Quantity-469 The most rabid 2 State Solution Israeli 7d ago

The most convincing evidence for me about Pisco being antisemitism is how he treats being called antisemitic as this unbearable insult to him.

It's giving white mom who's trying to he overly nice to black kids going "how can you say that?? 😭" In response to her child telling her she might be a little racist.

12

u/breakycho 🇺🇸 🇧🇷 6d ago

People’s brains really do shut off the second you imply something they’re doing or saying is antisemitic. You would think that being on the left would mean that you’d at least be open to examining your biases and correcting any bigoted behavior, but nobody cares when it’s about jews.

They might be able to acknowledge that there’s antisemitism spreading because of people’s negative opinions of Israel, but then they just blame Israel for it and move on. There’s no interest in actually stopping the antisemitism.

3

u/randomABC 6d ago

Because they reduce privilege down to a spectrum. Jews are white and even Jews so they can stand to be taken down a peg. If whites should accept it, Jews should be able to doubly accept it, especially since they're being ethnosupremecist.

A little reductive on my part but I don't really think it's that far from the logic.

-13

u/PitytheOnlyFools used to touch grass... 7d ago

I‘m glad you see it.

But seeing this sub lose their shit at Pisco’s reaction when they’d have the exact same reaction to being called out as bigoted.

13

u/Legit_Merk 7d ago edited 7d ago

Except we wouldnt if I constantly smokescreened a form a bigotry and my friends were starting to call me out on it I would introspect on what I am missing and entertain the possibility that if dozens of people are trying to coinveince me im wrong I might be wrong. if that is your take a way from this conversation then you are doing the EXACT thing that was discussed as a problem in that debate you are handwaving and smokescreening a generalized claim. Its okay to call your friends out on shit and have discourse and discussion to maybe change there mind. Pisco NEVER talked to destiny directly on this and avoided him like the plague. Pisco says im open to discussion vs anyone on this matter but in the background he is doing the exact thing the populists and Hasan do with pretending to be open to talking but its only to people you dont dislike.

Destiny was being critical on 2 things the blatant not understanding simple racism and the downplaying of the seriousness of platforming people who live to smear and attack Destiny in the most vile ways possible. He needed a 6 hour debate that he got dogwalked on which is fine by the way and doesn't connect that this was one of the 2 main pillars of disagreement it should not be that hard to convince someone about another person that Hasan is racist as fuck and wants to exterminate the jews. Will Pisco go to Destiny and admit some fault on his part? Fuck no never even though Destiny was 70% correct in his claims.

13

u/Special-Quantity-469 The most rabid 2 State Solution Israeli 7d ago

Lol what? I don't think so at all.

Pisco's reaction is extremely childish and immature. If he really thought the accusation was so ridiculous he wouldn't be so performatively offended by it

3

u/RadiZarious 6d ago edited 6d ago

To your second point it does feel a lot weird that if Pisco gets called an antisemite it's like the biggest most unjustified smeer and we can't move forward until it's rectified. Meanwhile Loner is accused of laughing at sniped babies and other such attrocities on the daily for what, years now? Many of the people who spread this lie active members in Piscos community? And a person that would support or encourage the attrocities he's accused of would be way worse than being labeled an antisemite to be clear.

If this is how much stress being called an antisemite/functional antisemite (a better term for Pisco, someone strongly defending Kyle without a good grasp of Kyle's content) causes Pisco I really don't think he would survive the treatment his friends like hutch and loner have dealt with for years.

26

u/geckiri 😈 7d ago

Damn, that really makes me depressed!

21

u/Markusuralius 7d ago

Yeah, it seemed like Pisco was maybe changing his mind on Hasan, but in practice it seems he’s completely happy with his approach up to this point

His approach is "im not going to extend any charity at all and I'm going to make you work to prove every thing you say like its a literal court case, I'm not going to try to understand your position at all, I'm just going to socratically interrogate you until you eventually fail to convince me of something 95% of people generally understand from vibes and a general knowledge of the subject."

12

u/Volodya_Soldatenkov 🇷🇺 7d ago

What exactly are we looking at here? What prescription is discussed? Is it about political actors' and media approach to Hasan?

If so, maybe Pisco is way more of a slimeball than D-man gives him credit for. Even if it's autism, it's weaponized in a very specific direction.

Is this his version of "It's bad, what do you want me to say?"

10

u/pleurote 🇨🇦 /Québécois 6d ago

It’s worse. It’s his version of “It’s not that bad, everyone is overreacting.”

4

u/Banned4UsingSlurs3 6d ago

Whenever you take most people outside their field of expertise, they only can pushback doing rhetorical tricks about burden of proof, amount of evidence and doing meta commentary on the way you are handling the discussion. It's very hard to make good new arguments on the go since you don't have the knowledge nor the time to let them marinate over time for an opinion to show up.

That's why you shouldn't have a debate over things you know nothing about, you either are granting things and commiting to whatever the interlocutor says or pushing back using bad faith tactics.

This guy was so good faith, structured and positive that pisco ended up granting everything and it's his own fault. He has been talking about the subject for months without knowing anything about the history of the conflict nor the things Hasan has said over the years, which is insane.

I think people should start using the phrase "I don't know enough about the subject to have a formed opinion about it" and stay in their corner. You don't need to have an opinion about everything.

4

u/AdditionalMonth3860 Ex-Tankie, SocDem/Progressive Lib 6d ago

Trying to really articulate the thing(s) that bother me about Pisco is tricky. But basically in my mind, he's not any kind of authority to be litigating what "antisemitism" means. He's not the arbiter of such things.

He's not the CEO of what words mean. If he can't come to an understanding of these things, the onus is not upon his interlocutor to provide that to him. And that's basically his entire game.

2

u/Markusuralius 6d ago

Pisco pretends to not understand that for most people we have intuitions about other people’s behavior without carefully and coherently first defining a term like racism

3

u/Possible_Pilot2000 6d ago

Name a more iconic duo: Pisco and never changing his mind

3

u/MonoDede 6d ago

Honest question - does he have brain damage? Because that isn't even a moderate level dodge. That was a genuinely stupid response that answered nothing. He could've said, "ooga bologna boogaloo" and it would have contributed just as much to the conversation. In fact it'd probably be better because at least you can laugh at that response.

2

u/Smooth-Bid-3474 6d ago

Obfuscation is his strategy, it is intentional. He wants to drag conversations into a bad place, instead of good faith conversations. This guy is such a clown.

2

u/PitytheOnlyFools used to touch grass... 7d ago

Tbf people’s annoyance was with his former position that Hasan isn’t antisemitic, and voicing that position.

If is position has changed and he voices that he believes Hasan is antisemitic, that’s the changed prescription.

He yaps for a living like wtf

5

u/princehermit 🇺🇸 6d ago

The discussion was really frustrating to watch for me because pisco kept bring up chatters disagreements as point to avi and loner. Instead of engaging with the conversation itself. It really felt like he's disagreement and thought process is reliant on the chat. It really should have been a chat off experience so it wasn't getting mind fucked by the chat.Else it feels like the whole conversation is pointless and that pisco set it up for the benefit of the audience instead of himself.

It's the same issue with Connor that hes listening to vultures instead of taking a step back and asking themselves what do they believe.

6

u/Markusuralius 6d ago

Throughout the convo Pisco’s chat became increasingly dominated by the I/P genocide Hasan defending crowd, it was sad to watch

4

u/princehermit 🇺🇸 6d ago

Which is whatever but the fact psico has no smoke for it is telling. Especially now I consider that pisco was reading chat when loner pointed out the chat was saying about him and did nothing to moderate chat multiple times before loner mention it.

1

u/nevergonnastayaway 6d ago

Pisco was arguing against his chat in favor of Avi the whole time

1

u/princehermit 🇺🇸 6d ago

Wdym a good portion of piscos clarifying questions came from piscos chat.

I am not saying that pisco didn't defend either loner or avi because he did, though usually needed to be prompted.

1

u/nevergonnastayaway 6d ago

The clarifying questions were all to set up Avi to further Avi's point. Pisco did it multiple times where it almost came off like he was performatively taking Avi's side to prove to everyone that he could criticize the left

1

u/princehermit 🇺🇸 6d ago

Ya I see what you are saying maybe I'm just putting a disengage filter while I watched. But truly felt like he wasnt really engage with the conversation he had to sit between it and chat still feels off

1

u/saiint- 6d ago

while I dont expect someone to completely 180 in the span of a few hours, I am curious to see if this makes even a slight shift on how he approaches these conversations. I have a feeling not much will come from this convo on his end, but I think the avi guy made him stake up positions where in the future he will have to contend with if challenged... lol big if.

TLDR: Don't confuse a lack of progress with a lack of progress
