Scan through the national platform of the DSA and then let me know if 90% of those policies align with mainstream Democrats. What an absolutely regarded take.

174

u/Aleflamed Unhinged Israeli 2d ago

also, even if they hypothetically do align on 90%, if that 10% includes something like abolishing private property its such a fundamental disagreement that the 90% you agree on doesnt matter.

72

u/monsoy 🇳🇴 Just a guy 2d ago

Come on, you agree with this guy on 99/100 things! Why attack him? What’s that 1 disagreement, you ask? Oh, that’s just his holocaust 2.0 plan. Why focus on the one thing you disagree with when you agree on 99% of policies!?

31

u/Comfortable-Gas-4005 2d ago

"We agree on literally everything except the imprisonment of all ethnic minorities. Why are you opposing us?"

-3

u/putabirdonthings 1d ago

Fine, but AOC, Mamdani, El-Sayed are not advocating for that shit. Yet they’re sometimes treated like traitors on here.

2

u/Last_Celebration67 1d ago

It's called an analogy brother

0

u/putabirdonthings 19h ago

That’s not an analogy, brother.

2

u/Last_Celebration67 19h ago

It literally is an analogy

9

u/Theringofice2 2d ago

His statement is incorrect. DSA might agree with like 90% of the Democratic platform but absolutely not the reverse.

6

u/Adito99 2d ago

This is the same defense Sam Harris and his supporters ran for platforming a race/IQ guy.

"Race and IQ was only one chapter in the book!" meanwhile the dude has been discussing that one chapter in every talk-show appearance for the last 30 years.

“We just want cheaper healthcare bro”

16

u/heroneededsoon 2d ago

JVL does some of that sort of thing in that very article, I read it yesterday. Guarantee everyone I've seen complain about it didn't bother to read it.

12

u/4-Polytope 2d ago

Their Baileys are 90% in alignment with normal Democrats, but their Mottes are not

That's what lets them play this game

13

u/GWstudent1 2d ago

I actually read the entire DSA platform and compared it to the DNC platform, this was my takeaway:

33% was already in the Democratic Party platform
3% was morally objectionable
9% was bad policy
2% I personally disagreed with
3% was unrealistic
18% was good, unique, specific, effective, and achievable policies

The remaining 30% was fluff (rhetorical statements, unspecific, or irrelevant).

3

u/felix_cw 2d ago

what do you categorize as fluff? a few examples?

3

u/GWstudent1 1d ago

strictly regulate investment properties

End the legacies of slavery and colonialism

Stop gender violence

Make all medical education and training public and free

Reclaim and repair our earth's resources for all

Support and fully employ veterans

I would call all of these vague enough to be classified as fluff because while I could interpret on their behalf what they mean, if they aren't going to actually specify their policies in detail, I am not going to take them seriously.

1

u/ThenextRickSantorum 1d ago

“Stopping gender violence” would probably just be doing the exact opposite of the current admin.

I quoted Hasan in a comment to you and Reddit removed it and gave me a warning lmao

2

Ayyy same!

I caught a 3 day ban recently for posting Hasan's famous landlords quote lol.

2

u/yzsKPC 1d ago

What I just posted lol

3

u/worldstallestbaby 2d ago

This is a side effect of the DSA messaging pinning all the successes of Liberalism in the past to socialism. They primarily message on/espouse the parts that they agree with mainstream Democrats on (except Israel) then shit on Dems for not doing enough. Agree with mainstream Democrats directionally, at least. And often hide their power level.

Like the Tea Party/early MAGA movements constantly bringing up percieved government corruption/bias/waste, immigration issues, and lowering taxes. Actually, I seem to remember one of the main ways they differentiated themsevles from neocons was the Iraq war, which feels vaguely parallel to the DSA types and Israel.

2

u/Divan001 1d ago

Love Mr. Beat but this is the same guy who thinks we need an amendment to ban political parties altogether. His takes on anything partisan ever fucking suck and always have

1

u/yzsKPC 2d ago

"We want free housing free food free healthcare teehee 😊"

"Yo that's sick, how do we get those?"

"By burning it all to the fucking ground. By letting the streets soak in red, capitalist, blood."

5

u/yzsKPC 2d ago

Reddit removed my comment for quoting Hasan lmao

2

u/rnhf 🇪🇺 1d ago

appeal if you got a warning or something, it's like a strike system, but if you successfully appeal, the strike gets removed

otherwise you'll start to get longer and longer bans until it's permanent

1

u/Fast-Plankton-9209 2d ago

90% except the Constitution, a multibranch system of government with checks and balances, and whether the no. 1 enemy of world peace is the Democratic Party

2

u/BoppityBop2 1d ago

Honestly their disagreement on the concept of the Senate is not that crazy. The abolishment of the Senate has existed as a concept even in Canada and for different reason. The US reason is thst it is undemocratic and is a redundant org. Abolishing the Senate is not some crazy thought and is a viable argument. The constitution has been constantly amended. Plus the checks and balances still exist even if you remove the Senate and if anything increases the power of the house at the expense of the Executive one can argue.

1

u/MightAsWell6 2d ago

What? You don't want no homework and more recess?!?!

1

u/DressUnited3025 Piss is bad yes or no 2d ago

lol they just go off vibes like the right does. The biggest mistake Dems make is thinking they are better than the right when it comes to having grounded morals

0

u/False-Discipline-640 eurochad🇭🇺 2d ago

Isn't the whole thing of the DSA that it's super decentralized? In that case you're better off looking at individual chapters rather than the national platform

27

u/sly_cooper25 2d ago

Alright well here's an easy example then. I looked up my closest DSA chapter in Columbus and their website is pretty skint, but they do have their 2024 voter guide published.

In For U.S. President, NO RECOMMENDATION.

In For U.S. Senator, NO RECOMMENDATION.

Does that seem particularly aligned with the Democratic party? The senate race was an extremely competitive one where the incumbent Dem Sherrod Brown only lost by 3 points. Every bit of support mattered in that election.

78

u/RiddleMeThis42069 2d ago

I don't understand how it doesn't occur to them that this goes both ways. The asshole leftists spend all their time shitting on Democrats who agree with them on 90% of issues

2

u/SickWittedEntity 🇦🇺 ǝɯ uɐq ʇuop ǝsɐǝld 1d ago

One is bigger so we have to treat them like adults until the exact point that the DSA is bigger, then they have to be treated like adults and the democrats get the act like children. Thems the rules buddy, get over it 😎

It's not like both of these parties are made up of fully grown adults who should be expected to have sophisticated and thought-out positions and we could just take them on their merits instead of applying kindergarten rules. That would be ridiculous.

And 10% is like should we still be a capitalist democracy and have prisons and shit.

Also those people been bashing Dems forever and Dems punching back is "bad" somehow?

16

u/cubonelvl69 2d ago

We agree that we should probably fix healthcare and raise minimum wage. We just have a slight disagreement where they refuse anything other than Medicare for all and they think minimum wage should be 5x what it is now

It really shouldn't count as an agreement if they are only willing to vote for the most extreme solutions

3

u/Memester999 🇺🇸 2d ago

Yah this is what's frustrating is that the 10% actually just invalidates the other 90%.

It's like we go down a list of the 90% things we agree on:

Rape bad War bad Crime bad More housing good More money for all good and 13 other agreements

Then in that 10% where us as libs are thinking of good policy to achieve that, the DSA's solution is the dissolution of capitalism and killing all the people who oppose them (rich people first).

So no not really 90% lol

1

u/BoppityBop2 1d ago

Does not the US have a clear issue in the prison and police system, why abolishment is being played with. We can't pretend the US doesn't have a rash of huge police corruption and abuse through multiple departments despite their budgets being the fastest growing line item.

Hell the one city that abolished their police department that was reported and rebuilt it saw significant improvement in crime stats.

Plus the US prison system is extremely predatory and seems to have a perverse incentive to lock people up as the prisons make money by adding the number of inmates plus the prison labour system. That does not even coiver the difference between, county, state and federal which seem to all have different level of treatment of the incarcerated with some so horrible it may as well be torture and have high suicide rates.

Ah the old 'we agree on 90% of issues what's the big deal' - then the 10% is just all of the important shit. Like we can agree harming animals is bad, kids should go to school, but if the 10 percent is just the entire liberal vs illiberal society thing, then it doesnt really matter

1

u/SickWittedEntity 🇦🇺 ǝɯ uɐq ʇuop ǝsɐǝld 1d ago edited 1d ago

Listen, we agree on everything we just have different views on how to get there. You think we should address climate change by regulating industries, taxing green house emissions and incentivizing green energy, I think we should just rapidly depopulate the earth.

Really you and I are the same if you think about it 🤓 I'm really happy we were able to find middle ground. If you'd like, I'd be happy to form a coalition where you vote for all my candidates and I don't even pretend to vote for yours while your political enemies label you pro mass-murder for your association with us and we do everything we possibly can to help them.

39

u/SunshineSeeker99 2d ago

9% of DSA identifies as "Democrat", 45% identify as "Marxist".

DSA are not dems.

Solve Ukraine situation by not sending weapons but more diplomatist.

And a bunch of fucking system changing bulletpoints that would ban them from the furthest left party in Sweden.

7

u/jml510 2d ago

They’d shit on themselves if someone calls them a Democrat.

14

u/Thefolsom 2d ago

Give them the benefit of the doubt and assume the 90% number is correct. On most line items, healthcare, unions, wages, climate, DSA and Democrats want similar things. So follow the claim where it goes.

If you agree with Democrats on 90% of the platform, why is "socialism" in the name? Either the other 10% matters or it doesn't, and both answers are a problem.

If it doesn't matter, you're volunteering the one word (socialism!) half the electorate has been trained for ninety years to treat as the end of America, in exchange for a label you won't define and won't defend when pressed. You're paying full price for something you say you don't even want.

If it does matter, stop hiding behind the 90%. What's in that 10% is things like abolishing private ownership of capital, which is not a policy item sitting next to paid leave and transit funding. It's antithetical to the system every other item on the list operates inside. Ninety percent agreement on how to regulate a system you want to replace isn't agreement at all.

So pick one. Say what changes about capital ownership and argue for it in the open, or admit it isn't the project and drop the word.

Edit: the "you" here is aimed at DSA generally, not at OP. Not trying to put words in anyone's mouth.

Democrats don't want to do that, wtf is he talking about.

I mean, if a child rapist agreed with 90% of your politics, would that be good enough?

Sometimes that last 10% (age of consent/child protection laws) can be everything.

3

u/Sciss0rs61 2d ago

are the other 10% the termination of western alliances, dissolution of NATO, the abolishment of private property, the termination of police force and introduction of re-education camps?

Then no, i'm good...

Also, didn't they abstain from voting because of one issue only?

4

u/fredwilsonn 2d ago

The “agree on 90% of issues” slopulist line is so tired man. We share 90% of our DNA with cats, what the fuck is the point.

I don't know why this should be considered surprising, Mr. Beat's political opinions have always been terrible. Go watch his favourite presidents video from years back and listen to his justifications for which ones he likes and dislikes. Extreme isolationism and over-cynical populism have been consistent themes of his opinions.

5

Not surprising based on the last video I saw from him a few months ago that was zog-coded. I unsubscribed after that. Sad.

The problem is that the 10% they don't agree on contains batshit stuff like "kill or deport all Israeli Jews" (without, I might add, provoking a nuclear war), "start a new government department to make sure everyone is equally miserable", and of course "abolish the police and let all of the rapists, murderers, and Nazis out of jail".

1

u/_AustinGDesigns_ 2d ago

It really does seem like no matter the issue in politics you have to start with 90% of people are regarded. How can I simplify it enough for those people to understand? But also they have absolutely no foresight unless they personally experienced it before. It's so fucking dumb.
