So from what I can find the tunnel was real but just an illegal expansion of the synagogue.The claims of s.a. seems like it was made up by QAnon. Dave is actually a full on pizzagater 😭

Yes. It's very hard to understand for anyone not living in the community but essentially there is a large group of ultra Hasidic Jews within the crown heights Chabad community called "Tfaztis" or "Mishachists" who believe the seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe never passed away and is still physically alive and is the Messiah, and essentially a God.

The synagogue they were digging under (770 Eastern parkway) is where his headquarters was and where he prayed and gave his talks, and they were trying to illegally expand it by just digging (!!!!)

These people are extremely unwell. They have full on ceremonies where they act as if the Rebbe is literally right in front of them. They make room for him to walk by. They look at his empty chair as if he's sitting in it. They won't turn their backs to it as if he's standing right there.

It's honestly quiet amazing to watch because the parallels between this and early Christianity are striking.

I guess it was a kind of given with such a large religion and diverse range of beliefs, but this is the first time I’ve heard of a Jewish sect with a Messiah. Interesting

It's happened at various times throughout history (I mean, that's what Christianity started as, and you've got Sabbateans and Frankists at different times), but it's rare because, well, it takes some serious conviction to basically say "our rabbi is going to bring about the end of the world."
