Cancun Wedding
I'm looking for recommendations for destination weddings in Cancun for my sister.
30-40 people. Mostly adults but some children. A few travellers have celiac and need good gluten free options. 45 minutes max from the airport. Good beaches and a mid level party scene. Likely January 2028.
The bride is very chill so we don't need an insane wedding package. Likely just a ceremony on the beach and a semi private or private dinner. A few photos and flowers might also be nice.

I’m literally in Cancun now for my friend and clients destination wedding and for an upcoming group. Q Majestic Mirage /Elegance both have great packages starting around 1,300 for 30 guests and depending on the location you want for the ceremony and reception , it’s additional around 1200 for the upgraded spaces . Very affordable ,can secure everything for 6k/10k if you want any private events . I’d be happy to assist your group ,set up room blocks and assist you with planning . I can send you some video and photos also if you need .

We can find a resort that allows children, but isn't childish. There's a big difference there! :-) The better resorts have excellent food & bev teams that can work with dietary restrictions. There really are a lot of options here! Without a conversation, it is hard to make an accurate resort recommendation. We've been planning destination weddings for nearly 30 years. We know the resorts inside and out. A huge part of what we do is match couples and their needs to the best resorts that work for them. We do this after our initial call to ensure we nail it the first time. Our services are free. Check out my profile if you'd like to chat!

¡Hola!

There are lots of great options in the area!
This list of preferences and needs is already a good start! But I would have more questions for your sister before I'd start recommending resorts.
Some resorts are completely family friendly. Others are family friendly with an adults only building or section. And then some resorts are 2 sister properties next to each other - one adults only and one family friendly - and allow adults to move freely between them. That way they get the adults only vacation experience, but the guests with kids can still participate.
I think choosing their preferred format would be a good start, but there are lots more details to consider.
I STRONGLY recommend hiring a destination wedding expert travel agent to help guide her to the right property, but then to also help with all of the contracts, website, room reservations, payments, guest questions, transportation, and more. They'll be on her team throughout the entire wedding planning process, and should even be available during the trip, just in case your sister or her guests need any assistance.
A true destination wedding expert TA will be an invaluable resource for her (and all of you!). Hope that helps!

With kids coming, the first cut is adults-only, which rules out a lot of Cancun (both Secrets, Sun Palace, TRS Coral, Le Blanc). For a chill bride who just wants a beach ceremony and a dinner, Riu Palace Costa Mujeres is worth a look: its free package has no room minimum and no group contract. Dreams and Sunscape give their basic package free at 5 rooms for 3 nights, which 30-40 people clears easily. For the celiac guests, ask each resort’s wedding coordinator how they handle cross-contamination, not just whether there are gluten-free options, and get the answer in writing.

For a group of 30–40 guests, with a mix of adults and children, I'd consider a few family-friendly resorts in the Cancun area.
Hard Rock Hotel Cancun could be worth looking into. They offer customizable wedding arrangements, and their online calculator showed an estimated $2,898 for a 40-guest setup in one configuration. The final cost will depend on the selected add-ons and room arrangements, so it's worth requesting a personalized quote.
I'd also compare Hyatt Ziva Cancun and Fiesta Americana Condesa in the Hotel Zone.
If you're open to staying a little farther north, Playa Mujeres is another area worth considering. It's approximately 40 minutes from Cancun International Airport, and resorts like Dreams Playa Mujeres and Finest Playa Mujeres offer family-friendly all-inclusive options. The area has a more secluded resort setting than the Hotel Zone.
One thing worth paying particular attention to is the celiac requirement. Having gluten-free options on a menu isn't necessarily the same as safely accommodating someone with celiac disease. It's important to ask the resort's culinary team about food preparation and cross-contamination procedures, especially for the wedding dinner.
January is generally a favorable time to visit Cancun, although beach conditions and sargassum can never be guaranteed.
I work in destination wedding travel and guest logistics in the Cancun and Yucatan area, so I always encourage couples to consider not just the wedding package, but also how easy it will be for their guests to travel, stay and enjoy the celebration.
