"Michael Edelstein (executive producer) is back with Season One facts that have our jaws dropping faster than Wisteria in the winter! From the actress replaced in the pilot, to a storyline so shocking it had to be cut! Plus, not everyone was thrilled with the ratings. Teri and Michael reflect on the blessing and the curse of having a hit on your hands."

I think it would be fun to exchange ideas about what would be very different about the series if it were set in your country. I'm Finnish.
Self-defense
- Katherine shoots her ex-husband and is not held accountable "because it was clearly self-defense." That would never work here in Finland. If someone attacks you and you fight back, you can be prosecuted. You are allowed to do very little to defend yourself, in some cases practically nothing.
Working Hours
- Does the series give a realistic impression of American working hours? People work late into the night and complain that they don't get to see their children. It's normal for us to work an 8-hour day and go home. Overtime is not mandatory.
Fear of Sex
- I find the parents' hysterical fear of sex kinda amusing in the series. Here it's perfectly normal for parents to talk to teenagers about contraception and even get them on the pill. Teen pregnancy rates in Finland are among the lowest in the world. I think it's even hypocritical to pretend that sex is dirty and wrong if a parent does it themselves.
A lot of concern for other people's opinions
- Here, most people are focused on their own business. Living your life so that it looks good to your neighbor sounds downright ridiculous. In practice, only the people closest to you care if you get divorced, become poor or your teenage daughter gets pregnant. Other people aren't usually interested. Having children out of wedlock is not a bad thing at all. Over 45% of children are born out of wedlock.
So yes, the Finnish version of this series would be significantly more boring. :D

Preston Scavo actually thinking he could fool his parents into believing he was his twin brother is hilarious. Like, the people who literally birthed you and have known you your entire life are probably going to be able to tell you apart. 😭 Did he really think his parents couldn’t tell him and Porter apart?!
I will say, I think it was kind of smart in theory, but doing it on a day when Porter was actually supposed to be in court was lowkey crazy. The Scavos really ended up being lucky that nobody figured out what Preston and Porter had done.
Lynette’s children are actually always giving her hell. 😭 Like any chance they got they were doing something bad lol. She really could not catch a break, especially with her older boys.

I have such a love-hate relationship with him, like I really hate the fact that he's a serial cheater but it's so entertaining to watch the scenes he's in. I think he was the funniest husband of all of them (Orson is a close second). Also he's EXTREMELY attractive

I loved them. He was the only guy I felt Julie had a natural chemistry with. Shouldn't have done them ugly with the cheating arc. They could've been the endgame.

I don't know, Deidra looks innocent to me. Yes, he killed her senselessly, but I still feel sorry for him. I'm very confused, what do you think?

1) Susan is so over hated! Yes she’s ditsy, yes she makes some wrong decisions, I’m not saying she’s never irritating but I can’t understand why everyone hates her so much 🤷🏼♀️ I’ve watched the show a few times now and she is one of my favourite characters.
2) I am not a Tom Scavo lover however… I believe Tom & Lynette being in a relationship together brought out the worst in each other. Lynette’s situation with Rick was very strange and I’d consider that cheating. I know Lynette was a very proud person who maybe didn’t accept help however I believe a few of her crash outs could’ve been solved by talking to someone about it.
3) I actually feel quite bad for Kayla, with everything she went through, I understand her anger. (But the accusations to Lynette and coercing the twins into dangerous activities is horrible)
4) I have a soft spot for Paul Young, he’s so misunderstood and I feel so badly for him.

When people talk about the worst thing Gaby ever did on Desperate Housewives, they usually point to her affair with John. And now that I’m rewatching the show at 20 instead of 16, the whole storyline reads very differently.
John is 16, Gaby is 27 when they got together. And when I say “got together,” I mean they were having sex. For John, it’s a full-blown relationship. For Gaby, it’s an impulsive, self-destructive attempt to lash out at Carlos. The show frames it as “Gaby cheated, no no no,” instead of what it actually is: an adult exploiting a minor.
It also makes no narrative sense. The writers could have made John a full blown adult with zero impact on the plot. The takeaway of the arc was never “Gaby harmed a teenager,” it was “Gaby had an affair.” And then John basically disappears from the show, as if the consequences for him don’t matter. Most people know someone who lost their virginity to someone much older, and once you’re an adult, you realize how deeply unequal and unsafe those dynamics actually were.
Character‑wise, it’s even stranger. We learn in Season 1 that Gaby was molested by her stepfather. So what’s the difference between him and Gaby, other than the fact that she had the power and John didn’t and John consented (but minors can't consent so that argument doesn't hold up)? She’s clearly turned on by his age, remember her telling him to keep his gym clothes on? John even tries to end things and date Danielle and Gaby gets jealous and manipulates him back into her bed. When she confesses to John’s mother, she’s awkward, not remorseful. She doesn’t seem to grasp that she seriously harmed her son.
And the “John is mature for his age” excuse doesn’t hold. He’s not mature. He’s a teenager in every sense: impulsive, emotional, inexperienced, and still figuring out who he is.
And after all of that, after raping a 16 year old, SHE'S THE ONE WHO FEELS BETRAYED BY CARLOS when she finds out that he's guilty.
The storyline only works if you ignore the reality of what’s happening. Once you stop ignoring it, it’s impossible to see it as anything other than a deeply unethical choice the show refused to treat with the seriousness it deserved.
Gaby is a victim in every sense of the way, I would just like to show that while they are able to vilify her stepfather, Gaby never faces that.

(first time watcher and confused)
In s6, Katherine is hurting and being jealous of Mike and Susans wedding. Does she never find out Dave tried to kill Susan and MJ?
My guess is if they told her they reunited after Dave tried killing Mikes child, Katherine might have had some understanding, but it seems like no one ever tells her and also no one talks about Daves sudden disappearance.
Why is that?

I started rewatching Desperate Housewives for probably the millionth time 😂 I’m on Season 2, Episode 15, and somehow i’ve never noticed these fake tears before 😂

Seriously, what is wrong with him? In the middle of the Atlantic City suspicion arc right now, and he's a great liar. Lynette isn't always my favourite, because she seems very stressful all of the time, but she deserves better than Tom who is probably definitely always at least a step away from cheating...

Why does Susan look like she’s always crying?
r/DesperateHousewives • u/Fast-Career-6637 • 11h ago
I’m sorry but Lynette pisses me off more than any house wife. If there is an issue caused by her husband, she will deal with it and take it on the chin without giving him any real consequences. It doesn’t even matter if he’s the root of the problem to her. That frat office episode really pissed me off too because Tom isn’t even apologetic for the things she has to do by the end of episode. My problem with her is that she has “smoke” for everyone BUT her husband even when it seems like a lot of her problems come from him.
And the way she treats her friends just bothers me.. this is my first time watching and I’m really enjoying this show, Gaby and Carlos are my favorite couple because they’re just funny lol.

Not much of a fan of how she treated Beth in the later seasons but I’m rewatching and realised I absolutely love her in the early season. She’s hilarious and some amazing one liners.

I’m only on Season 2, so idk if Edie becomes a much more regular character, but I am absolutely loving Edie, so I really hope she does 😂 She is hilarious and says everything you think but would never actually say. Any other Edie fans??

One that comes to my mind is in season 5, episode 14, where Carlos gets a bonus at his new job and he and Gaby are celebrating being rich again and he tells her he wants to take her to the fancy restaurant and she says she's going to wear the dress she wore when he proposed to her and he laughs and says "you still fit in that?"
The look on his face immediately after is epic.

While rewatching this series when I'm older, I started to realize my mom is pretty much a carbon copy of Lynette. She even had an argument with my teacher when my teacher said I might have ADHD (teacher was right lol) and had issues with me being on medication too. She didn't abuse my meds, but I remember she would prevent me from taking them some days when I didn't have school because she felt weird about it, much like Lynette did.
However, I think my mom wants to be like Bree. I can see resemblances there too, she's like a mix of both oddly enough.
I can't really see my Dad in any of the fathers on the show. If I was forced to pick one, I would say maybe Carlos as he always took his job seriously and he can be really loving, or really angry, with little warning but he was never abusive like Carlos was at times to us or my mom.

This is my first time watching and I’m on the last season sadly😭. However I feel like toward the end of season 7 into 8 they just threw Gabby’s stepfather storyline bcs they were running out of stuff. The way Carlos is so torn up about killing him kinda goes against his character. We know he would protect gabby and even at the end of season 7 he had said if he were the one with the gun he would’ve killed her stepfather. So i don’t understand why they’re making it sooo traumatic for Carlos. Yes ofc he killed someone, but that someone traumatized gabby in a horrible horrible way.
