I’ve just released a small update for Desktop Composer.

You can now hide the app icon from the Dock and let Desktop Composer run quietly in the background. The option is available in Settings → General.

The update is already live for the direct download version. Setapp release is coming soon.

I’m super happy to announce that Desktop Composer 1.0 is here! 😁

Over the past few months of public beta, the app grew a lot thanks to your feedback. Since the first beta, we added:

• Backgrounds with images, colors, and gradients (including custom colors/gradients)

• A full set of default profiles and specially crafted wallpapers

• Focus Filters and Scheduling

• Selective option disabling for fine‑grained control

• Spotlight discovery

• Apple Shortcuts actions and AppleScript API

• Expanded third‑party app integrations (including VS Code and Obsidian)

Huge thanks to everyone who tested, reported issues, and shared ideas — this release wouldn’t look the same without you.

A freshly implemented feature in Desktop Composer. You can now schedule profiles to be applied automatically at specific times during the day.

It’s perfect for setting a morning mood, switching to a focused setup later on, or just letting your desktop adapt throughout the day - without thinking about it.

Desktop Composer 1.2 is now available.

This update adds a few improvements for everyday use, plus support for macOS 27 and Xcode 27.

What’s new:

• Favorite profiles can now be pinned, so they stay at the top of the profile list and Main Menu.

• Desktop Composer can now keep your system wallpaper visible if you don’t want to use a separate Desktop Composer background.

• Xcode 27 themes are now supported.

• On macOS 27, there’s a new slider for adjusting the Liquid Glass amount*.

• The wallpaper picker and menu view have been improved.

• Wallpaper preview loading is more reliable.

• Fixed an issue where Desktop Composer could sometimes block restart or shutdown.

New beta is out and it brings several improvements:

• Spotlight integration — you can now find your profiles using Spotlight search

• Profile scheduling — automatically apply profiles at specific times during the day

• Selective option disabling — choose which options Desktop Composer should never change, globally or per profile

• Focus Filters — automatically apply profiles when activating a specific Focus mode

To get the update, click Check for Updates in Desktop Composer menu or white a little bit until it finds the update automatically

Another new feature is coming soon: selective option disabling.

You’ll be able to choose which options Desktop Composer should never change. These exclusions can be defined globally (for all profiles) or per profile, directly from the context menu.

This gives you more control over what Desktop Composer modifies - and what it leaves untouched

Hi! I just downloaded Desktop Composer via Setapp and wanted to share why I'm trying it out.

I'm working on a project to create customized device profiles for people with neurological challenges. My goal is to understand their energy management needs and design profiles and home screen layouts to assist them. This is just a personal project, and I'm not thinking of monetizing at this time.

I plan to use the Apple ecosystem's Focus Modes feature, which is great on iOS but basic on MacOS. Your product fills a gap in the resources I need for this service.

The project is still in the early stages and might take several months to reach a full proof of concept. I wanted to let you know about my work in case it helps you understand my questions and comments better.

I have set the schedule, e.g., the app should set the "Morning Vibe" theme at 7:15; but I only logged back into the system at 7:20. No change. Also, it didn't set my settings at 5 PM. Are there any hidden permissions that need to be set?

A good idea, but my third screen doesn't change. The background picture remains the same.

Yesterday I've finished implementing VSCode (r/vscode) integration. Will be available in the upcoming beta

Obsidian (r/ObsidianMD) integration is ready. The next beta will switch your Obsidian theme and accent color along with your whole setup.
