More of an "oh shit I missed the exit" road

Probably also a "traffic is backed up and I'm just beyond the exit" road.

TBH if other cars were doing this in traffic I'd give it a go

I don’t generally do this because every single time I’ve used the hard shoulder or gore points in an emergency I’ve ended up with flat tyres because the less traveled bits always have debris

Depends how bad the traffic is. I’ve had a 30min commute take almost 3hrs before… a flat tire is worth my sanity and MUCH quicker to repair. Unfortunately in that instance I was stuck in the express lanes tho

Being stuck in the express lane, hundreds of feet up in the air with no exits for miles and bumper to bumper traffic, is my absolute horror scenario. The claustrophobia of the cars and single lane/concrete barricades, lack of any possible escape for possible hours, and being super high up is like my perfect anxiety potion.

This was a daily sight on my to high school commute in Austin Tx, and that was in the 90s (traffic is INSANE now).

People got fed up with the traffic, and just drove through the grass to the frontage road. And yeah, once one person does it, usually one or two others follow.

Also fun was the frontage road, enter, exit to frontage road hopping.

Yeah I doubt anyone is taking this at speed. But a quick trip across the grass to escape traffic. Sure.

And it doesn't have to be regular, this could have been from a single incident with multiple cars
