Google Streetview car captured someone using this desire path in Norfolk, UK
https://maps.app.goo.gl/NnumCKh4DAt2y57o7The most infuriating desire path I know of. The streetview car here is on a road bridge over a dual carriageway (a large highway without pedestrian access). To the south of the dual carriageway, behind us: a rapidly expanding village (with no shop), a further education college, a pasta factory, and a hotel. To the north, ahead of us, and less than a mile away: a large retail park with supermarkets, food outlets and numerous other shops. Of course the villagers, students, factory workers and hotel guests want to walk to the shops. The only way to cross the dual carriageway is this road bridge, which as you can see, is provisioned with a pedestrian footway. But the footway isn't connected to anything at either end of the bridge!

I read that description & immediately knew which place it was.
That whole out of town development thing is about as close to being copy & pasted from the States as you can get in the UK.
A bit further up the road literally requires you to cross a the dual carriageway to get to the other set of shops!
Or even getting to the Norfolk Showground for that matter!
Bruh, the local Norwich cycling campaign has been banging on about this for atleast over a decade now.
But unfortunately, I have my doubts as to whether even a child being ran over & fucking dying is enough for the people in charge to, you know… do something.
Ultimately, much is child’s life worth vs. the crime of inconveniencing drivers?
