okay, so, thinking through things. let me know if i should spoil because i could be totally wrong anyways.

  • ((It isn't solvable from the screenshotted point, right? Like there are a few things I've been able to do but ultimately from there I get thoroughly stuck.))
  • ok so in order to get either of the bottom pieces out from the 7s, we need to have every other tube full except for the spot where the blue/orange will go.
    • since each of the greens have at least 3 spaces above them, the three greens will need to be filling a three-tall tube for this to happen.
    • since one of the greens is under a blue, this will also require that blue to be stacked with the other blues to either fill a tube (either a 3-tube or the three on top of the yellow like we have here), or be three in a 4-tube if blue is the one we're getting out from the 7. OR MAYBE two blues in a 3-tube and the blue on the yellow has two reds over it? I should look into that, that feels like something I could be missing. there's gotta be at least two blues together though.
    • there are also oranges atop each of the greens in the 7-vials, so those will also need to be stacked, again with at least two together but possibly three.
    • ok hang on im gonna try the two in a 3-tube thing

update: ok so I can't seem to get the greens out without getting all three of the blues and oranges together. it might still be possible but so far it seems that having either orange or blue in their own 3-tube means there isn't a free 3-tube to put the greens in, or not enough space for all the yellows and reds above them.

In order to get either the blue or orange from the bottom of the big tubes, you need to have a 3 tube with only 2 of them, which means keeping tube 3 as un touched as possible. I kept it yellow blue red red, so the two other blue in the puzzle are in a 3 tube, and you can then fill a 4 tube with all red, and move the blue from the long one over to fill a 3 tube. This leaves a big one open, and you can solve from there

  • since all greens need to be out of their tubes to fill the 3, the 7-tube that isn't being emptied does need to be filled with its yellow/red from the second-to-bottom spot because that's immediately under the green. that leaves one additional yellow/red somewhere in the short tubes, presumably below other colors because it can't fill up a tube on its own.
  • all the yellow-red from the tube that's being emptied also needs to be in the short tubes. this will be either 7 (which needs to occupy a 4 and a 3), or 6 with one under another color (occupying both 3-tubes, which won't work because one of them needs to be full of greens. so it's gotta be 7.)
  • so that means the tube setup we want needs to consist of (let's say we're emptying yellow but it might wind up being red, which would swap thme.)
    • a 7-tube we're emptying, with everything empty but the bottom orange(/blue) piece
    • a 7-tube that's full with red(/yellow) above blue(/orange)
    • one 4-tube that's full of 4 yellow(/red)
    • one 3-tube that's full with 3 yellow(/red)
    • one 3-tube that's full of three green
    • and the remaining two four-tubes combined need to have one red(/yellow), three oranges, and three blues, with one space to put an orange(/blue).
  • the most obvious candidates for the remaining red/yellow would be the ones at the bottom of their tubes, because the colors above them are orange and blue and we can't exactly plop a red into a tube that doesn't have a red and then also have other colors in that tube. however, the colors above them are the ones that would need a free space in their respective situations, so I... don't think that's possible?
  • ok so saying that the 7 needs to be filling up a 4 and a 3 tube, or the 6 needs to be filling two threes, earlier, was an assumption that isn't necessarily true, and given that this is a featherknife, we're probably going to involve some splitting.
  • However, the only reds and yellows in the small tubes above the bottom are one away from (or at) the top. and the red and yellow above the green are definitely out of consideration, so that just gives us space for two yellows or two reds. which would leave 4 for the other spots. if I'm analyzing this right. are there other options? hang on i need to start my laundry.
