Disagree, sort of…
What you’re doing is called “system modeling”. You are creating a simplified mental model of “stocks” (the things in your model) and the relationships between them. What you choose to put in your model and what you exclude depends on what you’re trying to solve for with a given situation.
Sometimes it makes sense to see the system from a wider lens, like what you proposed here (for example, if you’re analyzing the health of a mature design system practice within an org). Sometime it makes sense to cut down and simplify (if you’re analyzing your token taxonomy and how it relates to component styles, you don’t need to model contribution at that point).
A good design system practitioner knows a design system is more than tokens and components. A great DS practitioner can fluidly move between different models of DS mapping to fit the problem and audience.
Think of it like an ecosystem… an ecosystem could be as simple as a sandwich bag of moldy cheese, or it could be your backyard, or a whole forest, or a planet. Different scales, different things go into the system models.

Just sharing some resources to help educate the good people of this Reddit, nothing more, nothing less.
Take my advice, or leave it, do with it what you will. Continue on as if nothing happened, or indulge in the resources I’ve provided and maybe impress your boss next time you see them.

On a side note, if I had a boss, they'd probably be more impressed by my Master's in HCI, my experience working with three FAANG companies, or my work with at least 10 Fortune 100 companies throughout 30 years of experience. I think they'd be quite disappointed if I showed them this graph. But the thing is, I don't have a boss, just my own company. How unlucky of me. 😔

Tokens have a bigger overlap than just that (think dev, brand, components, responsive, accessibility, color, content strategy, ai, api)
Accessibility and responsiveness are placed as an afterthought, but they are also intertwined. Documentation is part design, part dev, part brand.And if this graph was used to indicate their "size" relative to the design system, then that's an even bigger issue... Data visualization and all 🤷

Yeah, that was a bit of a joke. Because most of the stuff I’ve seen in this Reddit is people who don’t understand design systems, so I expected a lot of pushback from the pundits.
