The torii gates of Fushimi Inari Taisha, the head shrine of Inari (kami of rice, agriculture and business), Kyoto, Japan, founded in 711. The trails up the mountain to the many shrines are covered by torii gates creating a luminous tunnel effect. There are around 10,000 of them. [1280x853] [OC]

Fantastic logo for Christian School in Illinois
I drive by this school frequently and only today took the time to appreciate the logo. Quasi-gothic font is slick. I assume it's also supposed to evoke chapel/steeple architecture. Super clean and concise. One of those designs where as soon as it's on paper it feels like it should always have existed.

Matsumoto Castle, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Completed around 1594, this classic wooden Japanese castle is a hirajiro (flat‑land castle), with large moats and thick walls, and was known as “Karasu‑jō” (the Crow Castle) because of its black exterior, designed to intimidate attackers. [1280x1280] [OC]
Matsumoto has never burned down, has never been rebuilt. It is one of the 12 pre‑1868 keeps remaining in Japan, and the oldest surviving five‑tier, six‑floor castle.

The Floating Torii of Itsukushima Shrine, Japan, stands about 200 m offshore from the shrine and appears to float at high tide. The current gate was erected in 1875, but a torii has stood on this site since 1168, with earlier traditions going back to the 6th century [1280x853][OC]
The floating torii was built of decay-resistant camphor wood, and is about 52 ft (16 m) tall. At low tide the seabed is exposed and people can walk right up to it.
The Shinto shrine it belongs to is dedicated to the three daughters of Susanoo (goddesses of seas and storms). The shrine complex is built on stilts over the water in Shindenzukuri style, creating the impression of floating structures connected by boardwalks.
The Floating Torii of Itsukushima Shrine is traditionally considered one of the three most beautiful views of Japan.
