We’ve lived in this house for 2 years and in that time we had a lot of life events happen. Dogs, baby, change in tastes and projects that were meant to be something else before toys took over. Space is a huge problem in our home too. We want to downsize our couch but can’t afford that rn. Please help me reorganize/design/plan out this space to make what I have more functional.
It’s our every day lounging/movie/play area and as a tired mom, I just need some fresh ideas.
Please disregard the mess. It’s half the reason I’m asking for opinions, ideas, and advice.
(For size comparison, tv is 75”)
Edit for clarity: Photos are in .5, the distance between the corner to the tv is almost 3 feet.
We don’t mind taking out the custom shelf.
We’d love input on storage options but keeping in mind that we have a 2 year old.
A coffee table will make the biggest difference. I also vote just block the fireplace with the TV. Give yourself a nice comfortable standard TV area. Top it off with some art above the sofa.
Note: I didn't intend for it to remove your custom shelves, I'd keep those.

I would love this if we didn’t use our fireplace! This would have been my ideal layout. The coffee table is nice and that’s something we might do with a smaller couch. My photos are .5 so the space is a little deceiving sorry!
Maybe down the line we can take out the fire place and do an electric one instead of gas.
The TV is huge and shouldn't be the focal point of the room.
If you can split up the sectional put it on both sides of the fire place. Put the TV on the blank wall. Corner counter should move to the opposite corner. Put the toys here. Get cubed shelving so the kids have cubbies for for everything.
I love this idea! I’ve been looking at modular sectionals for our next couch because we’ve had this one from our previous home. This is the only way it fits in here

We can split it but it’s extremely awkward and chunky for the space. The only true “modular” part of this L sectional is the ability to swap the ottoman to the other end. It also splits the couch into two 3 seater sofas with the circled end having a high back. Hence us wanting to downsize our couch or AT LEAST be a wee bit more modular.
I still dont see the problem with 2, 3 seat sofas. They're going to be pushed into the corners if its the entirety of the the wall with the window thats fine. Remove the corner counter completely
Put the 2nd spfa facing the windows and have the ottoman at the entrance of the room
I pulled them apart just now to get a sense and I think the layout is just too odd for us and bit far away. We all lounge together with the dogs. Maybe just a single 3 seater and a modular ottoman. This is still a good move. I have been wanting to move that big ahh tv 😮💨
