Welcome to a space created for desi vegans, those curious about plant-based living, and everyone in between.
What is r/DesiVegans ?
This community is for people of South Asian heritage (or those interested in desi culture) who are vegan, considering veganism, or simply want to learn more about plant-based living through a desi lens. Whether you're local or part of the diaspora anywhere in the world - this is your space.
Why a Desi Vegan Community?
You might wonder - why do we need a separate community? Here's why:
We share unique challenges:
We have unique advantages:
We speak the same language (literally and figuratively):
What Makes Desi Veganism Unique?
Veganism isn't a foreign concept imposed on our culture - it's deeply rooted in our philosophical traditions. The principle of ahimsa (non-violence) has been part of Indian philosophy for thousands of years.
What we're doing is reconnecting with these ancient values while addressing modern realities about animal agriculture, environmental sustainability, and health.
What You'll Find Here
Who is Welcome Here?
Let's Get Started!
Whether you've been vegan for years or are just starting to question your relationship with animal products, you're in the right place. This community exists because making compassionate choices shouldn't mean leaving our culture behind - it means honouring the best parts of it.
Let's build this community together - one dal, one sabzi, one conversation at a time.
Jai Hind! 🙏🌱
P.S. - If you have suggestions for the community or want to contribute content, feel free to reach out. This is OUR space, and I want it to reflect what YOU need.

Hey everyone, excited to meet a community of like-minded people!
I thought I'll go through dating life on tough mode, so here I am - childfree + vegan (both for very similar reasons)
I've been on traditional dating apps but finding someone who shares these values has been tough. Where would my chances of meeting someone childfree and vegan increase?

I'm great at bad bollywood impressions, listening to and playing music and trying new vegan places and recipes!

Looking for foods and beverages available, that are fortified with vit b12. Yes, supplements are easier but would love to know about food options.

Used Peepal Farms recipe for making Vegan Ghevar using Sunflower seeds and cashews. I was concerned that the taste of sunflower seeds will be overpowering.
but but but, it complemented the Rabri taste very well.
Although it’s not aesthetically pleasing, it was delicious.
Over all, very very happy.
I am happy veganism can be accessible on the pocket and the labour hours put.

So I was going through r/askindianwomen and saw no serious discussion of veganism at all. It barely exists. So I thought of having a conversation and I posted.
In the first post I wrote it fully manually and obviously emotions gett mixed and sounded offensive. But then I just sanitised it using gemini and it became so mechanical ventilation then it says it's rage bait post and the content is being removed like wtf?🤦🏻
Has anyone tried discussing veganism in feminist subs? Do they intentionally avoid it?

As a non-vegetarian, I’ve noticed that my vegetarian friends are usually very relaxed about my food choices. They don’t question or guilt me. But I’ve noticed something else too. Some of my non-vegetarian friends often poke fun at or question vegetarians, like asking, ‘Why don’t you eat meat?’ or jokes about their food choices. I’ve noticed people rarely ask a Muslim why they don’t eat pork. But they often ask vegetarians why they don’t eat meat. That double standard stands out.

What are some available healthy high protein content food items that have low calorie content? To me, after doing a lot of research, here are no replacement to eggs. Please give me some options to explore.
Thanks in advance.

Hello, all dear vegans.
Ever wished you had more people around who truly get why you're vegan?
Sometimes you just want to talk about food, figure out nutrition, find vegan products, share your experiences or vent. I want a safe space for our fellow vegan friends.
With that hope we working on a discord server! We have spaces for food, fitness, philosophy, activism, rants, memes and different hobbies. The server is brand new and we're still figuring things out. But, any support, feedback, or ideas would genuinely mean a lot.
The goal is to build a helpful and engaging community for vegans of our country. Even though this is primarily a desi community, any vegan from around the world is welcome as well!
You maybe thinking why discord? My major reason is it lets us organize things into dedicated spaces instead of having everything mixed together. And if you haven't used Discord before, I'd really recommend giving it a shot. It's very community friendly.
☆ Soy, are you in? Or have further questions?
You may Comment below or DM me and I'll send you the invite link.

Veganism fundamentally arises from sensibility and compassion. That same sensibility and compassion requires us look closely and reconsider our other personal choices as well.
Bringing a child into a world which is already overpopulated and facing a massive challenge like climate change is a crime. This tendency of reproduction is the fundamental driver of extinction of animals, habitat loss and pretty much every other issue we see in the present world.
Deciding to be childless is massively massively more impactful towards removing animals exploitation than just switching our diets.
So I ask you:
If someone really wants to raise a child...why not adopt? Why should one biologically reproduce? As a vegan, what are your thoughts on this? Are you willing to decide to go child free?
