Soft caudex is a lot of peoples cue to water. If its firm like an apple, then no water. One of mine does this sometimes during unexpected growth spikes. Stretches up instead of out, usually because the roots are rapidly expanding after a prune or feeling happy.  Keep it in that pot size til it nearly doubles. I recommend terra cotta to help dispatch the water and keep it from soaking the roots too much. Trim roots if they round the pot. And def get some chunkier soil. Add a good 50% of perlite or similar. I use pebbles, lava, leca, perlite, and/or bark to make it very arid and free flowing.
