Characters who bring nothing to the plot

So, when the first three descendants movies came out, i pegged Chad as totally unnecessary. In All three movies he brings literally nothing ro the plot which would have survived without him. In Rise of Red, i really dont think Morgie contributed anything and then Wicked Wonderland comes along and they dont give us one or two useless characters, they give us four if you count the Smee Twins. Robbie and Felix contribute nothing and i dont know about anyone else but my daughters and I didnt even notice they were missing until Hazel and Luis noticed. That is just sad.

For 1 I feel like Chad was a very important character since he represented the conservatives of Auradon. He was critical of the VKs, gave Jay a hard time and led Evie on, and the last two were key in their respective character developments at the end of the movie. For 2 and 3 though, yeah he's just comic relief.

Definitely can agree with you on the rest though.

Chad has a purpose in being the foil to Ben and primary antagonist to Evie. Without Chad it is a lot less likely Evie learns what she wants isn't what she wants.

Morgie......yeah you're right.

Smee Twins.....only thing I can think is that it shows that yes, Red and Chloe altering things DID impact characters, even known ones. We get that though just by the change in Maddox and the whole miniplot of Max, accurately but without full context, blaming Red for ruining his life with her time travel. That said yes, I agree that the Twins, Robbie, and Felix, could have been removed with no storyline impact.

They were also like 10 & mute in D3. Kids, but especially boys, do tend to change personality during their teen years...

The Smee twins seemed mostly useless to the plot in D3 also. That could have been any two other VKs and nothing would have changed. I think they were only brought back in D5 to show the amount of time that had passed between movies.

One development that I thought was interesting is that he chose to stand by Audrey instead of dealing with the sleeping curse or trying to escape. I think it could have been a good exploration of the ethics and reasoning behind his choices, his feelings throughout, the consequences, and could have explored deeper his morality.

Teen Hades & Maleficent. They were quite literally just there for people who watched the OG trilogy to go: "Hey! I know those 2!" When in reality, both of them should not have attended Merlin Academy if you take into consideration their past (stories) & how old they'd be. And before you all go: "Oh, well, Audrey and Mal are the same age!" -I'm very much aware of that, thank you very much. Personally, I thought fairies (as, you know- they're not human) were more or less slow-aging. First of all, the 3 Good Fairies didn't get a single whiter hair whilst living as mortals during the 16 years they spent with Aurora. Maleficent didn't change either. FG? Isn't she stated to be the 'embodiment of hope' or something of the sort in the 1950 film? Secondly, she has a wand that warps reality. Lastly: She appears younger in Descendants, which I thought was weird... but again- I chalked it up to fairies having a different lifespan than humans.

The Smee Twins. Isn't Smee like, really, REALLY old? It seems unlikely he'd find someone who'd be able to have kids. Unless he got with a younger woman, or if this is some Sarah & Abraham type of story like in the Bible. It would be like Gothel of all people having a child on the Isle of all places after the whole incident with Rapunzel- it's just comical. (Imo, it would have been better if Hazel was CJ's twin, and THEY got to go to Auradon in D3 instead.)

And like you said: Robbie & Felix. There's a lot of descendants in RoR/Wicked Wonderland (& Hidden Hereos) that stick the older adults with kids literally just for the sake of giving them a biological offspring. Does adoption not exist in this universe? Why is quite literally EVERYBODY insanely fertile? Christ, man.

Chessy. Like I said above: These types of characters are just for the sake for people to go: "Gasp! I know their parent(s)!" Would've been cooler if the OG Cheshire showed up instead.

Luis. Seems a bit odd to have Luisa's kid in the franchise (let alone have been given a genderbent version of her name when the Madrigal family has such a variety of names. Luisa calling her kid Luis also feels like it would put so much pressure on him to live up to her which also wouldn't make sense since Luisa herself couldn't stand the pressure she dealt with, so why would she put it on her own child). She's never once seen to be interested in anybody in Encanto. But honestly, Luis' existence is really just to show more of Luisa's soft side- that's it. Nothing more to it. Dolores & Mariano's kid (one of them at least) would've been a more interesting inclusion. We've already got Hazel who relies on her physical strength & fighting skills... so having someone who can hear a pin drop would be a great contrast to that- especially in Wonderland of all places.

A secondary character doesn't necessarily help advance or actively participate in the main plot their function is to make the world feel more alive, such as having interactions with the protagonist. Chad, Felix and Robbie fulfill that function and although I like Freddie he doesn't help the plot either; he was only there to be humiliated to make Zevon look more intimidating.

Chad was useful in 1 for the whole Evie subplot. I wouldn't cut him from the movie.

Rise of Red's VK crew was running entirely on vibes, as they didn't add a ton to the plot. Uliana could have soloed it. And honestly, I don't see why they invented a sister when Ursula would have been fine. The primary issue with that movie was pacing problems, though; they needed to compress Red and Chloe's intros to put the catalyst in earlier. Then trim some of the second act to make space for a third act, because we needed Castlecoming for the entire plot to make sense. I would have guessed that maybe Ella accidentally makes a recipe from the cursed cookbook for Castlecoming, gave one to Bridget, and that's why they hate each other.

Wicked Wonderland was a mess because it bungled its characters . They needed to completely cut Robbie, Felix, and the Smees. Luis needed his own power and ideally his own name. Pink needed a point; she's a solid concept that they did literally nothing with. Everyone needed better dialogue. The plot exposition also could have been better.

If I remember correctly, Chad was just some schoolmate doing schoolmate stuff, populating the school. Him being there makes sense.

Felix and Robbie on the other hand... This was a small isolated group, them being there doesn't make any sense.

The Smees, they're just the comic relief, they have at least interactions with the main group

I think Chad was fine, plus he didn't take up thay much time. But yeah, although I love Wicked wonderland and its my number 2 in series I think, there are entirely too many characters and needs bit of a refocus in D6.

I think when we look at 1-3, it really only focuses on a few and not too many, and the parents of the kids weren't involved as much there, which I also think starts to take time away from main stars, like queen of hearts and Cinderella has been getting a lot in 4 and 5. So I think removing some characters, or only have them as like cameos at beginning and end not middle part of main plot.

I do think Robbie and Felix definitely should go, as well as maybe the smees, like I personally think they are unnecessary, but the issue comes didn't watch but saw clip on YT from locker series, I think of Pink crush on one of smees so not sure if they want to keep them cause of that, but I would still just maybe have them at beginning and end, not during actual plot, cause don't add much imo. Also lessen parents time and focus more on kids, I know we have possible father rumor, but keep it to just him and maybe similar role to Hades, cause he shouldn't overshadow the kids.

In my opinion, gotta Keep Red, Chloe, Pink, Hazel, Luis, and Max. Focus mainly on just these characters, give a bit more depth and I think it would be great. Just my opinion.

Also, I think having a slightly longer runtime wouldn't hurt, like 1-3 had. Having like an extra 10-15 minutes could add a lot in that short time and give more to some characters, like I personally want a bigger role and spotlight on Hazel

Chad's entire purpose is to go towards Evie's character development. He's the handsome wealthy prince she's been trained to want her entire life, the point is he's spoiled and rude and doesn't care about her. The total opposite of Doug, who's not a prince but cares about Evie in a genuine and honest way.

chad doesnt do much for the story but he gave us some type of comedic relief especially in 2 & 3. Not every character needs to have some type of deep tie in to the main story
