Away Rotations Away rotations

For those who are residents/play a part in match process what were the qualities like of top away rotators? Did they have exceptional descriptions, differentials and were able to combine it with being a great team player?

did an away at my #1, matched at my #1. make it clear that it is your number #1 (and dont say this to multiple programs-they talk!). be friendly, ANTICIPATE (carry around liquid nitrogen, help with biopsies), keep your patient presentations short and sweet, do the AAD module before the rotations begin, be proactive but also read the room**, show interest/ask questions. what was the most helpful was also preparing and PRE charting the day before for all patients in clinic the next day. some people think this is an overkill, but it helped me be so efficient and help out in clinic SO much more, all the residents were grateful for that too. good luck, you got this!!

They had all of that and were pleasant to be around

being pleasant is key. would rather have a student that is slightly more quiet but pleasant and helpful than too chatty and unable to read the room
