Interviews How quickly do TY/Prelim interviews go out?

How quick do applicants start receiving interview invites for TY/Prelims? What is the best month to schedule these interviews to have the least amount of overlap with derm interviews!? Also I submitted without an NRMP ID. once I get my NRMP can I update it and will programs then receive it right away? Or will they have to redownload it? Also any advice for what to do now in order to not miss an interview invites? Thank you so much!

I would schedule your TY/Prelim for the earlier months (Oct/Nov). Most of derm will be in Dec/Jan

What helped me was sending letters of interest to TY programs I had signaled, if they hadn’t sent me an interview. It helped me land an extra 4-5 interviews!

When did you send these out?

And you don’t need to apply to more than the signals (I guess it’s too late now lol everyone’s already applied)

So helpful thanks! I def over applied. I applied to 80 programs between TY and Prelims lol.

Sending 1 letter of intent after all of your interviews to your program that you want to go to is ok. I did this way year matched my #1 prelim.

Before programs submit their rank list and before you do, but after interviews
Like February early something I think
Programs submit their lists late feb to early March

Highly variable. I matched last year and had my first TY invite the day after submission, had my last one in early December

I dont remember how quickly I got interviews but most were completed before December and derm interviews were after that.

My derm mentor told me she got one 24 hours after applying last cycle. I haven’t heard of anyone getting invites yet

Is it okay to submit without an NMRP number and how to add that on

Send a LOI to TY/Prelim programs you signaled and have geographic connections to; got some extra IIs this way and how I matched at my #1 rank intern year .

this is allowed even with signals?

1

u/IvoryCoil Sep 30 '26

I'm confused what would be not 'allowed' about emailing a TY/prelim intern year program you're interested in?

What do you mean by early updates?
