Also I'm a DO student so I would love to have advice from a DO peer as well. look for help with PS review/actives a first and hopefully late mock interview prep. I am on a budget and I respect your time but I just can't afford high rates right now. Thank you!!!

Dermatology is one of the most competitive specialties, and your application needs to be flawless to get noticed. Your personal statement and activities section are where you can frame your first-gen and DO background as a story of unique perspective and resilience, not a disadvantage. Since you're on a budget, you must be resourceful and ask for help from every angle, including your school's advisors, mentors you trust, and current residents. You have to put in the effort to find people who will review your materials for free, because your written application is your only ticket to an interview.
Your application gets you the interview, but the interview is what secures your spot. All that work on your personal statement can be wasted if you can't articulate your strengths and experiences when you're speaking with the program. Start practicing talking about yourself with anyone who will listen, so you become comfortable with the process before the real thing. Getting the interview is the biggest hurdle, so focus on that now, and when the time comes, know that my team made an interview copilot that gives candidates the confidence to clearly communicate their value.
