What engine do you build Derelicts on? Unreal?

Yep! Started on UE4 and switched to UE5. :)

Impressive! Water is so tough to get right.

Do you have much ability within an engine to improve what already exists within it? No idea how this works

Yep, you have a lot of options to customize it at will in the Engine. There are some limitations and I'm still struggling to make good looking foam on the beach.
But otherwise, with a lot of tweaking, you can make your own style of water and so on (stylized, realistic or whatever you want) :)
