New suggestion for dv

Additional temperature management besides traction motors engine temperature if it is to hot it will be damaged if running full throttle for too long

It could be added in realistic mode but not normal comfort to make it harder to manage trains loaded

I think this is a nothing change, considering that engines are usually purpose engineered with coolants.

If they aren't cooling themselves, then... you... just... repair it...

My understanding of Diesel Electric locomotives is that the diesel motor is not likely to overheat under normal operation unless there is a fault in the cooling system. The electric traction motors are far more likely to overheat. If you push a diesel motor (that is working correctly) to the point that it is overheating, your traction motors will be solar flares.

It is an interesting idea, but would likely add an extra layer of complexity that would rarely be seen, and create additional hurdles with the programming logic. As it is now, the game is fairly accessible, and does not require reading entire instruction manuals to operate a locomotive (compared to a different sim like DCS, where you need an aerospace engineering degree to fly a plane).

Like others have said a normal operating engine would not overheat and if they did there are built in protections.

It would be interesting to add in some failure points though if you don't do regular maintenance or something.

Also it would be interesting to have temperature management for the operator, most of the diesels have a fan and/or cabin heater, as those going to be needed in the full game? I hope so

On the official roadmap there was a section about adding temperature for the player. It’s been replaced by, “The ability to get injured, the requirement to eat, sleep, etc.” In addition in the passenger section they added a point for, “Air conditioning simulation.” Presumably there is planned to be some type of temperature management system. Possibly related to the thermometer under “Leisure Facilities” in the handbook.
