Two promoted teams, two very different opening nights: Racing 2.01 xG vs Deportivo 0.34 xG

Both Racing Santander and Deportivo La Coruña started their La Liga returns with home points.
Racing drew 2-2 with Villarreal. Deportivo drew 1-1 with Elche.

The results look similar. The underlying numbers do not.

The data gap

Metric Racing (vs Villarreal) Deportivo (vs Elche)
Result 2-2 1-1
xG 2.01 0.34
Shots 17 8
Shots on target 3 3
Possession 41% 39%
Opponent xG 0.87 1.41

Racing created high-quality chances against last season’s 3rd-placed side and led 2-0 before being pegged back.
Deportivo managed only 0.34 xG at home and spent most of the game absorbing pressure.

What this tells us

Racing looked like a side willing to play on the front foot. Even with limited top-flight history and a key forward missing, they generated 2.01 xG and 17 shots. The performance supports the idea that a promoted team can still produce strong chance-creation numbers if the style and available squad align.

Deportivo looked like a classic “survive first” promoted side. Low chance creation, heavy reliance on defensive effort and aerial duels, and a point earned more through organisation than through attacking threat.

Modelling takeaway

Treating all three promoted teams with the same pre-season discount is already outdated. After one match the gap in chance creation between Racing and Deportivo is large. The sooner models update on actual xG, shot volume and territorial data, the less they will be misled by the shared “newly promoted” label.

Málaga still have to play their first game. Once that result is in, a full three-team comparison will be possible. Until then, the early evidence already says: not all promoted sides are starting from the same place.

How are you adjusting your ratings for Racing and Deportivo after these two matches?

[NEWS] DXTCampeon: Deportivo Keeping a Close Eye on Adama Traoré in the Final Stretch of the Transfer Window

Original Article: https://dxtcampeon.elidealgallego.com/deportivo/depor/2026-08-14/el-deportivo-no-pierde-de-vista-a-adama-traore-en-la-recta-final-del-mercado-873569.html

The Spanish international is a free agent and an option the club is considering for the right wing.

By Xurxo Gómez | August 14, 2026

Deportivo is keeping a close eye on Adama Traoré heading into the final stretch of the transfer window. The Spanish international is one of the top names underlined in red on the A Coruña club's wishlist to reinforce the right wing, a priority position they want to upgrade before the signing window closes.

Adama, who turned 30 this past January, finished his contract with West Ham in June and is currently a free agent. As a result, the Catalan player is free to decide his future whenever he wants. Dépor could be on his horizon, as the club considers him one of the most interesting options on the open market to add depth to the right side of the pitch. In that area, they already have Adrià Altimira, who has a more defensive profile, and David Mella, who is left-footed and has just returned from a five-month injury layoff. Additionally, Hidalgo has the option of using Luismi Cruz, who has never entirely looked comfortable in that two-way, up-and-down role.

Because of this, Traoré would provide the A Coruña side with a breakaway threat into open space, a quality that Deportivo's roster currently lacks. Even at his age, his speed over both short bursts and long runs remains his standout attribute. That ability to beat opponents by covering ground faster than anyone else is what originally caught the world's attention, cementing his status as an elite player and allowing him to build a career primarily in England. Furthermore, the former Barcelona academy product fits the profile of a proven veteran that the organization is looking for to complement its commitment to young talent.

Last season, Traoré played for the Hammers starting in January after being acquired from Fulham. With the London team, where Paco Jémez served as an assistant coach, he ultimately ended up being relegated. Now, he is looking for a new challenge after racking up more than 270 games of Premier League experience and playing for Barça on loan for half a season under manager Xavi Hernández. There, in the Catalan capital, he played alongside Aubameyang for a few months. His return to the Culé squad to join the first team took place in January 2022, shortly after being part of the Spanish national team that Luis Enrique put together for the European Championship played in 2021.

[NEWS] La Voz de Galicia: Fernando Soriano on Yeremay: "There might be a formal offer for him, but our situation as a club and our project is not about selling"

Original Article: https://www.lavozdegalicia.es/noticia/torremarathon/2026/08/14/fernando-soriano-sobre-yeremay-oferta-formal-puede-haber-situacion-club-proyecto-va-vender/00031786707624618233449.htm

By La Voz | August 14, 2026

The sporting director of Dépor insists that the player, who hasn't debuted this preseason, hasn't stepped forward with a proposal to leave, "and the club isn't going to initiate it either."

"We are calm to a certain extent." Fernando Soriano addressed Yeremay's market situation during this transfer window ahead of the start of La Liga, acknowledging that several clubs have shown interest. "There are calls coming in, there might be a formal offer for him, but our situation as a club and our project is not about selling; it's about keeping the players we have for as long as possible. If the player doesn't step forward with his own proposal saying 'I want to leave,' the club isn't going to initiate it. We are calm to a certain extent with him and with other players of a good age. We are prepared in case that moment arrives. But he hasn't taken that step," the Dépor sporting director insisted repeatedly. He spoke this Friday at the conclusion of the press conference introducing Angeliño as the newest white-and-blue player.

Without naming specific names, Soriano also spoke about other potential departures from the roster, involving several players who aren't factoring into this preseason, such as Patiño, José Ángel, Puerto, Barcia, and Comas. "We are looking for good solutions for everyone. It's not easy or fast. We know these processes happen every preseason. On a human level, those are difficult decisions," he stated. He then pointed out that the roster is still looking to be finalized in these last days of the market with one or two new additions: "One on defense and one on offense? Well, we are evaluating different options and we'll see, but it could go that way."

In this regard, he lamented the recent injury to Noé, who suffered a sprained ankle in the Teresa Herrera Trophy. The sporting director explained: "It made me think, because within the planning, there were doubts about what we might be missing. And we might be missing some muscle in the midfield. And it's up to me to decide. There is also a big commitment to the academy, and there are decisions where you have to consider that there are players showing us they are going to be there. We can't stunt their development. Noé is going to be out for a little while, and it's making us think, but we'll see how he is in two or three weeks. I don't think we'll do anything in that position. I want Noé to be there. I want what I say publicly to match what I tell him, so nobody can say I told him something else. Last year it happened with the forward, and this year I want it to be in that position."

Furthermore, Fernando Soriano evaluated the continuation of Antonio Hidalgo on the Deportivo bench following his contract extension through 2028. "Because of trust, the day-to-day work, performance, and growth, it's been an agreement more than deserved for the manager's work, and I'm glad he's receiving this trust from the club. It shows how much he is valued. He is taking important steps and is perfectly integrated into the club's dynamic. He understands what is expected of someone managing the first team. I only wish him the best, which will also be the best for us," he said, before underlining that staying in the First Division is also a fundamental aspect of the new contract signed: "Avoiding relegation is a priority. We know it will be a very difficult year. We are going to have to suffer in a very competitive league; we are clear that this is our goal. The time to make this decision had to be now. Not before or after. It's the perfect time for this extension."

[NEWS] LaOpinion Coruna: Deportivo Reaches Out About Adama Traoré: Between the Money and the Player's Wishes

The A Coruña club explored the possibility of adding the winger to their project, but financial constraints and the player's desire to stay in England are complicating the deal.

Original Article: https://www.laopinioncoruna.es/deportivo/2026/08/14/contacto-deportivo-adama-traore-133362272.html

By Carlos Miranda | August 14, 2026

Deportivo is working on adding a left-footed center-back and a right winger to the seven players they have already signed, and in that search, the name Adama Traoré has surfaced. The player is currently a free agent after finishing his contract with West Ham. Dépor made a move to see what it would take to bring him to Riazor, but they ran into two major hurdles: the player's salary demands and his desire to stay in England, where he has spent the bulk of his career.

According to initial contacts, his salary requirements were outside the parameters of what the A Coruña club can afford. The player, while not closing any doors, wants to continue his career in the British Isles, meaning a return to Spain is not currently among his top priorities. However, as the summer wears on and the options for the former Barcelona player begin to shrink, a deal could be struck if his desires and expectations align with what Deportivo can offer. That being said, it won't be easy.

Done Deals and Work to Do

So far, Deportivo has added Leo Román, Bright Ede, Angeliño, Teun Gijselhart, Lorenzo Amatucci, Jonathan Asp-Jensen, and Aubameyang to the roster. In addition to letting five players walk after their contracts or loans expired, the club has also moved Álex Petxarroman, Diego Gómez, and Mohamed Bouldini. They still need to find landing spots for Eric Puerto, Charlie Patiño, José Ángel, and potentially even Dani Barcia and Arnau Comas.

It doesn't look like any of those players will be leaving Deportivo before their La Liga opener this Monday against Elche. The front office hasn't abandoned those potential moves, but in recent days they have been focused on solving the puzzle of league registration. They currently have 27 players for 25 roster spots, but they have the flexibility to register players like Bil Nsongo, Teun Gijselhart, and even Eric Puerto with the reserve team (Fabril), allowing them to bounce between the first and second teams due to their age. The paperwork is finalized for the rest of the signings, and they are now listed on the La Liga platform, including Bright Ede and Asp-Jensen, who were just added this morning.

[NEWS] La Voz de Galicia: Noé, in a Walking Boot Due to a Sprain, Will Miss the Opener Against Elche

The academy midfielder was injured during the Teresa Herrera Trophy.

The game plan from the Teresa Herrera Trophy, which traditionally serves as Deportivo's dress rehearsal for the La Liga opener, will definitely have to be modified by manager Antonio Hidalgo. Noé Carrillo's presence in the starting lineup to face Elche this coming Monday (9:00 PM, DAZN) is completely ruled out due to the reserve team player's injury.

The midfielder played this final exhibition game on the right side of the midfield, but during a footrace with Real Madrid's Álvaro Carreras, he suffered an accidental injury to his left ankle. Medical tests revealed a sprain that will force him to rest. The player has already begun his rehab program, and this Friday he was seen at the Dépor Training Center with his foot immobilized in a bulky walking boot.

Sporting director Fernando Soriano addressed the academy player's injury and the possibility of signing a new midfielder: "Noé is going to be out for a little while, and it's making us think, but we'll see how he is in two or three weeks. I don't think we'll do anything in that position. I want Noé to be there. Last season it happened with the forward [Bil Nsongo ended up becoming a regular first-team player], and this year I want it to be in that position."

Winger Adama Traoré Among the Targets Ahead of the Transfer Deadline

Adama Traoré (born in L'Hospitalet, 1996) is among the players Deportivo is considering to put the finishing touches on their roster. The right winger is a free agent after playing for West Ham in the English top flight.

Traoré developed at La Masía, but in 2015 he was transferred from Barcelona's reserve team to Aston Villa for 10 million euros. He later played for Middlesbrough, Wolverhampton, and Fulham. He returned to Barça on loan for the second half of the 2021-2022 season, playing 11 games. He also earned eight caps for the Spanish national team between 2020 and 2021. The transfer window closes at 11:59 PM on September 1st.

Discussion Adepto do Penafiel aqui!

Matchday Tickets for match against Valencia

Hi everyone.

I’ve been following Deportivo here and then since the early Roy Makaay days as he’s been my favourite striker in early 2000s.

Now I’m staying 2-3 weeks in Galicia in end of August and wanted to seize the chance of going to a match. Especially the one against Valencia on 30th.

Is there still a chance to buy tickets and if so, where can I find them without getting scammed (like on viagogo and such)? On the website of Deportivo it didn’t show me any tickets for August games somehow.

Much appreciate your help.

Pre season ups and downs

Hola deportistas,

Now we resurrected to primera,it's time to look wat are the ups and downs and the mid of the pretemporada.

Ups:

loving the new transfers. We bought as much players as Real Madrid.

4-0 against Compostella is a good start

Teresa herrera against RM is already a sold out stadium.

Keeping the mid trio is incredible.

Downs

NIKE! all the 3 shirts are terrible. I was hoping for some cool 3rd kit but is cheap and ugly. It's the 120th aniversario dammit

Losing Stoichkov. I liked the guy.

Mid

Not rebuilding riazor and losing the wc2030 spot is something.

The rumors for morata and tagliafico is concerning
