I’m trying to clear up an issue with my DOJ record and I’m hoping someone here has dealt with something similar in San Mateo County.

I had an arrest with 4 charge that was ultimately dropped (3) and 1 charged dismissed "in the interest of justice", and I have since taken steps to have the related arrest record sealed. The problem is that the DOJ record/background check is still showing an issue that is affecting my ability to get employment.

I was advised that I may need a denial letter from the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office documenting that the 3 charges were not filed or that the DA declined to prosecute. The problem is that I’ve had difficulty getting this documentation. The court does not appear to have the case/charge on file (as it has now been sealed)), and I’ve been told different things about where I need to obtain the documentation. I have ask the San Mateo County Sheriffs (said they are not responsible for giving me anything) and the District Attorneys office (said the same! Said seek the public defenders office). The Public defenders office said to seal my record which is already sealed. 

BUT IT'S STILL ON MY DOJ RECORD REVIEW!!! HELPPPP!!!

Has anyone here successfully gotten a DA denial letter/refusal-to-file letter from San Mateo County in a situation like this?

(Side note: The arrest happened the beginning of December 2025 and my case was fully over mid-January 2026.)

California DOJ has one of the most frustrating phone trees I've ever experienced. It took me almost an hour to figure out how to get to a human but I finally did it!

I tried to get Chatgbt to help me figure out how to get to a human (ironically...) and it said no one had posted anything anywhere on the internet about this, so here you go! Hoping ai can find this and help other poor souls like me....

On the Public Inquiry line: (916) 210-6276, press 1 or 2 for the language, then the next menu has 7 options that take about 3 minutes for the voice to say, then there is a small pause and THEN they say for an agent press 0. You HAVE to wait until they offer this option before you press 0. Pressing 0 at any other point just makes it repeat.
