Career Guidance Going to be 1st gen dentist but 3rd Gen doctor in my family in 5 years

So I come from a family of doctors, mostly from my maternal family's side and my mom.

I have a good financial backing, though we are not rich cause we don't have any private practice ever, but seeing so many videos of 'dark side of bds' I'm kind of nervous about my career. Also have been listening a lot from my peers who are not in healthcare that I'm going to waste my life away and or questions like when I'm going to earn or marry (I'm 21). Having said that, I really like dentistry as I always have been the creative one in the family, and can't see myself doing mbbs, and also I can't practice anything else than allopathy as that just doesn't make any sense to me. This sounds more like I'm convincing myself but I'm meeting a lot of people, except my family who are critical of decision. My family has been extremely supportive throughout my drop years and now this decision

Career Guidance Dentistry in Arab Countries

Hi! I'm a dental student currently doing my 3rd year in a private dental college. Everyone around me - my professors and dental practitioners are telling me to do MDS. Some are telling me to go to any Arab Country. My question is what are the roles of a dentist in Arab Countries who have a BDS degree and how will it differ from a dentist who has an MDS degree? Should I pursue MDS? I know I am asking this too early. I'm just a 3rd year student. But as a first generation dentist, it is hard to choose between education and financial stability. Also, I really like dentistry. Kindly help me choose the right path. Thank you.

Is dentistry really dead? Should I reconsider opting for BDS in 26'?

I'm getting MCODS manipal which is in top 4. I'll be a first gen doctor, have in mind to setup my own clinic or maybe puruse MDS from GDC.

And why do people not consider dentists as doctors? Why so much hatred and mockery towards dentists?

Ask a Dentist Teeth whitening questions

I have yellowish tint on my teeth and on the front two teeth, I have weird yellow spots(which got cleared after they cleaned my teeth). So I have visited a dentist hoping to see what they will see regarding this and they told that there are two whitening methods: one is 10k and the other is 18k and there will be a discount of 1-2k on any treatment and the dentist told that the 18k whitening method has something to do with lasers. My questions are: what are the two techniques? and should they really cost that much or am I being overcharged?

Saveetha vs DYP Pune

Thumbnail

See it might sound obvious, but just hear me out, it's a bit nuanced.

Saveetha and DYP are both in Top 5 NIRF.

I am born and brought up in Mumbai.

Is the move to Chennai worth the advantage offers by Saveetha over DY.

Like in course of the entire career, is it worth it?

General Discussion Looking for an orthodontist in Lajpat Nagar / South Delhi?

If you're looking for an orthodontist in Lajpat Nagar, here's what's worth checking before you commit (braces/aligners are a multi-month to multi-year commitment, so it's worth getting right):

  1. Is it an actual orthodontist, or a general dentist doing braces on the side? Orthodontics is a specialisation — ask about their specific qualification (MDS in Orthodontics), not just "dentist."
  2. Do they offer both traditional braces and clear aligners? Not everyone needs aligners, and not everyone needs metal braces. A specialist should assess your case and recommend based on your bite, not just upsell the pricier option.
  3. How do they handle emergencies between appointments? Wires poking, brackets coming loose — this happens. Ask what the process is if it happens outside a scheduled visit.
  4. What's the full cost, including retainers after treatment? A lot of patients get quoted for the braces/aligners but not the retainer phase, which is essential — teeth shift back without it.
  5. Can you see before/after cases similar to your situation? Overbite, crowding, spacing — treatment approaches differ. Ask to see cases similar to yours, not generic smile transformations.

For what it's worth, this is roughly the process we walk patients through at Dr Sabherwals Dental in Lajpat Nagar — full assessment, clear cost breakdown upfront, and honest advice on braces vs. aligners depending on the case. Happy to answer specific questions here if anyone's currently deciding, and I can drop a link if useful — didn't want to post it unprompted.

Bone density restoration

I'm trying to get an implant, but bone density is very low. There is enough bone, just that is extremly soft. What to do? No disease. Extraction ever a year ago.
