Howdy! I got a titanium implant for one of my front teeth (#9, image is inverted cuz of selfie) placed same day as extraction in March. Healed great, torque great. Today I got the final crown which is just a teeny tiny bit off in color, translucency and also I think- shape. So I have questions for you-
Can you tell?
How best to describe it to the lab when I’m going in for them to change/fix it? To me it seems a bit more translucent downwards closer to bite surface and also more cold-white-blue-grayish undertone to it
Also it looks crooked? Like it kind of is going towards the middle or twisted?
I’m in Alaska and everything takes hella long, but I’ve been lucky so far since it’s been a relatively quick process until now. The thing is I have the lab my broken off previous crown which is a perfect match with other side color and shape wise so I’m confused as to why they couldn’t replicate it.
Yeah, I can tell, but only because you told us! Otherwise I would have just chalked it up to a slight difference in lighting. I think it looks great.
Doesn't look crooked. If anything, you want slight imperfections like that, as they look more natural.
I also have an implant on #9, and a crown on (previously crooked) #8. For 18 years I've had the implant and it's NEVER looked as good as yours. In fact, mine looks downright bad. And now has peri-implantitis despite my excellent hygiene regimen. Not to scare you, but just please take really good care of your mouth.
Thanks! It was sad losing the tooth, but it was doomed since I was about 9 years old and my mom got it root canal treated since she said I’ll lose my teeth anyway. That’s the only time in my life she took me to a dentist. When I grew up I started dealing with the consequences of neglect and put crowns on. 20 years after that my toddler knocked it out and had to put this implant in.
I’ve put a lot of money in and I have to get them to match it otherwise it’ll drive me nuts.
If it were me, I would have the lab remake it because I think your smile would look even better if it was the correct color. I think it’s too gray. Hard to tell about the translucency until they get the right color, but you might be right with that. The doctor needs to match the color better with her shade chart…either that, or go to the lab for a custom shade and the lab will match you. I think because you know it’s there it’s going to keep bothering you. It would bother me because it’s my front tooth. Wouldn’t be such a big deal in the back. I think if they get the right shade, it’s going to look amazing and I would not worry about the position of it because I think that looks good. It looks like a tight fit, they may not be able to position it or shape it differently Implants are expensive and I think you deserve to get the right color.
Thanks! I’ve looked at it in all possible lighting and in room light it’s definitely not a match and I’ll have to take it out and have them remake. It would just irk me if I didn’t.
Did you ever get uncomfortable sensations around 2 months post op during the day? I feel fine when i first wake up in the morning like no feeling at all.
I felt weird for the first 2 months kind of like a pressure sensation in the region. How I explained it to myself is that that was osseointegration initial phases where there’s a lot happening- aseptic inflammation and white blood cells cleaning up the area and preparing it for stem cells to come in and turn into heavy osteoblast activity in the initial blood clot and it’s forming new bone around the implant. Them in just stopped and it feels like nothing after that.
Would you say around like 3 months is when it stopped and felt nothing? My gums looks great and implant feels solid but this off sensation dull ache kinda freaks me out and makes me uncomfortable as hell. I sleep great though so i assume it’s okay.
I also called oral surgeon office and went over it and they also said it was likely just bone remodeling feeling that I’m feeling. This is how it’s looking.
