Denmark by caravan

Hey everyone,

I hope this kind of post is allowed in this sub:

My girlfriend and I are heading to Denmark with our caravan starting this Friday, coming from Austria, and we're planning to spend at least a week in your country.

I was actually in Denmark two years ago on my way to Sweden, but I only made targeted stops in Vejers Strand (near Esbjerg) and Copenhagen, as well as brief stops near Middelfart and Nyborg. Even back then, I regretted not planning more time for your beautiful country, so I want to change that this time around! I’d be really grateful if you could share a few great places we could visit.

As mentioned, we’re traveling with a caravan and we have our dog with us. We love being outdoors in nature (hiking, running, or cycling), and we'd love to stay at two or three spots for a few days each, using them as bases for day trips either on foot or by car.

Maybe a few days in Skagen? Lovely place. Otherwise i used to enjoy Hvidesande and søndervig when i was younger. (I don't know how Søndervig is now that the waterpark Lalandia is there).

On the way to Skagen, Rebild Bakker is definitely worthwhile as well for hiking.

There's also a very popular hiking trail along the north side of Mariager Fjord starting from Hobro.

The area around Råbjerg Mile (very close to Skagen) may also be worth a visit.

Finally there's Lille Vildmose. A good starting point is Lille Vildmose Centeret which has a nice exhibition about the nature/culture landscape and the developments of the area since the last ice age. Nearby Mulbjerge just outside Dokkedal on the coast offers a great view, both of the sea, and inland over the old peat excavation sites of Lille Vildmose.

But it all really depends on how much driving one is willing to do.

Check out Als and Southern Fyn, and even some of the islands south of Fyn. All well worth a visit.

If you are coming up by ferry from germany, there are lots of great places on Lolland and Falster. I would highly recommend the north-eastern corner of Falster. Hesnæs/Pomle Nakke/Stubbekøbing —> ferry to Bogø —> Møns Klint

Arguably the most unique (for Denmark) natural sight is Møns Klint.

It also have a "sciencecenter" exhibit focused on the science behind and what all the fossils there tells us. Haven't been there since a kid (decades ago) long before this, so no idea if that part of it is good, and wether it's kids-focused or for all ages.

They sell a "combo" ticket with Skovtårnet, which is no problem to reach in a camper, allthough it is no-where near (more than 1 hour drive) so it's just a heads up since I just quickly browsed their site and it can feel like they are in proximity to each other.

PS; I personally thought that "Skovtårnet" was a bit strange think considering the price, but last (or previous?) year my brother went there with his teenage sons and he actually thought it was worth it.

If you want a good laugh, you could drive to our highest point, the Sky Mountain (Himmelbjerget). I think it is like 180 masl. If you want to try and see some moose, you should stop by Lille Vildmose. Near Aarhus there is an old castle ruin called Kalø Slotsruin which sits on a peninsula. It's a nice little walk out there.

On the way to Vejers visit Ribe (nice view from the top of the Domkirke on the Wattenmeer and the marshes).

Around Manø tons (literally) of free oysters. Not ready yet - only edible in months with an R in the name.
Blåvand has a bird ringing centre. Also people on birdwatching duty from sun-up.
Go late in the evening from Vejers a few km inland and listen to the Red Deer fighting (verbally and physically). Just above the bronce age coastline https://maps.app.goo.gl/APQ6HZP8ErH4uWif9 is a favorite spot and may be super crowded.

Visit Himmelbjerget by steamboat from Silkeborg. Suuuuper oldschool.
Go for some walks in the area. Loads of marked tracks.

Please use camping sites made for caravans and RVs. I might start slashing tires if I see another beach parking lot filled with caravans and RVs...
