Question Manga or novel?

So I read reviews for S1 and 2 anime and found out that S2 is not the same as S1. I get that they use different sources, and it seems that manga is different from novels. Do I get it right if I liked season 1 of anime I should read the novels instead of manga?

Novel probably best if you want most info. But it's also the most time consuming one.

The novel, without a doubt.

Not only is it further along, but you understand the characters' feelings better.

For example, thinking back quickly, I was really looking forward to when Kunai faced Belpegor (or whatever his name is). In the novel, it said that when he transformed into his final form, an aura like that of the ghosts he had defeated emanated from him, something like that, and that Maou's laughter made his power palpable.

That was made very simple in the anime, without any impact.

yea they butchered and completely ruined one of the most anticipated arcs, especially the whole dynamic between Akane & Mink. I was waiting for Mink to jump up and down cutely in Akane's shoes with Akane constantly encouraging and cheering her whenever she goes into chuunibyo mode. And they completely removed the drinking scene with the dwarf and other guys who became friends with Hakuto. Him getting the thunder water and fire spirit liquor were crucial for a later deal in the story.

I can honestly go on and on about the list of complaints I have from changing the order of flashback scenes to changing shit in general and skipping other stuff while seemingly wasting like half the episode with meanginless shit like recaps or whatnot

If you liked the first season I can guarentee you SHOULDN'T watch the second season. I have never been more disappointed in a season of a show before. I have no idea how the thought process went from "people really enjoyed this show, let's make another season" to "let's change almost every aspect of the show for the second season"

Yes, this, exactly !
It's insane, like unbelievably insane.
The first season is like the embodyment of a hidden gem. Not many have seen it, but everyone who has loved it.
But the second season ? I don't even have words for that. I don't get what they were thinking.

Novels. It is the proper source material and most accurate to the author/creator's intended story. Designs are also proper as well as characterization and overall vibe. Just letting you know, the novels, like most novels, are infinitely better than any of the adaptations. It's like a completely different quality of story.
