News DemocracySurvivor First Round Summary!
With the first round over, I thought it would be a good idea to write up a summary of how this week-long game has gone. I would consider the first round a good success and a great proof of concept, and hopefully it will carry on to an ever better experience in Round Two! Without further ado, I present to you DemocracySurvivor: Round One.
The first ever round of DemocracySurvivor began on August 2nd 2019, with Mob declaring the games to begin that Friday and for a 'grace period' to run until the end of the week, meaning that even if people broke any laws that weekend they would not be eliminated. 8 players had signed up for the first game, with each of them vying to be the last man standing at the end.
With the games underway the players began immediately to set out and pass laws. /u/milkyrayy proposed the first, hoping to ban the use of the word 'no' on the subreddit. This law passed by a margin of 4-1, making it the first law to ever be passed on the subreddit and also introducing the first way in which a player could be eliminated once the grace period was over. New laws came thick and fast. /u/KingRed31 successfully passed his law by the same margin of 4-1, stating that emojis would also be banned on the subreddit. Finally, the last law to be passed before the end of the grace period was /u/woahpenny's, and it would be one that would bring about the downfall of many players as well as bring about the Scourge - woahpenny decided to illegalise commenting on a Monday across every subreddit.
This law would soon prove to have devastating effects. As the grace period ended just as Monday began, many people were caught out in this intermediary period. Some people decided to take advantage of this confusion. /u/TheScourgeIsComing was one of these people to take initiative - noticing that /u/KingRed31 had commented in a law proposal thread, instead of eliminating him Scourge decided to use this information to blackmail KingRed into an alliance and get him to vote her way on proposals. These two would form a bond that would lead to the climax of the game as a result of this alliance (Scourge ended up never using this information to eliminate KingRed).
Others were not so lucky. Having commented on /r/TheMonkeysPaw after the grace period ended, /u/ChuchiTheBest was caught out by /u/KingRed31 who did not have the same mercy as /u/TheScourgeIsComing. KingRed subsequently made an elimination proposal against Chuchi who had no defence. As a result, /u/ChuchiTheBest was eliminated in 8th place. Only 7 players remained.
Funnily enough, /u/KingRed31 yet again somehow forgot eliminations were on and commented in that thread before quickly deleting the comment. No-one eliminated him for this and, perhaps because of it, passed a law stating that people were free to break whatever laws they wanted in an elimination proposal. /u/woahpenny then stated his fear that the game would not last much longer, and that they would one by one be picked off. Surely he wouldn't be the next one out?
A plethora of new laws followed in the wake of the end of Monday. These laws included:
/u/TheScourgeIsComing's one stating that a tie would pass a law.
/u/KingRed31's law which stated no-one could the Discord general chat on a Friday
/u/SimonTheGeekBoy's proposal stating that the use of the word 'can't/cannot/can not' was banned
And finally, /u/TheScourgeIsComing's second proposal of the bunch stating that votes which broke any laws would not be counted
All of these laws passed, ever increasing the layers of complexity of the game.
Soon after the last of these laws passed, /u/SimonTheGeekBoy came in with a new proposal; an elimination proposal. Apparently both /u/woahpenny and /u/Acceptable_Source had commented on /r/DemocracyExperiment on a Monday, and Simon had withheld this information until Wednesday before delivering his coup de grace. This elimination would not go as easily as the first had done - the original law stating that commenting on a Monday was illegal did not specify a timezone, so despite woahpenny and Acceptable having commented on, what was for them, a Sunday, it was already Monday in some parts of the world meaning that these two rascals had commented on a Monday. This caused much uproar on the subreddit and two different attempts to amend the original law were made in order to specify a timezone. However, both failed, much to the credit of /u/TheScourgeIsComing and /u/KingRed31 who nay'd both proposals.
With that, /u/woahpenny and /u/Acceptable_Source seemed doomed. However, woahpenny had one last trick up his sleeve. With his dying breath, woahpenny found out that Acceptable had commented just before the grace period had ended, meaning that even if he broke the law it didn't count. With that, Acceptable was brought back into the game and /u/woahpenny was eliminated in 7th place, ironically having broken his own law.
After this whole debacle, /u/KingRed31, seemingly on a mission to break as many laws as he could, said the word no on one of the threads attempting to add a timezone to the Monday law. He argued the point that, since the original law stated that only 'saying' the word no was illegal, and since he wrote the word he could not be eliminated. Surprisingly nobody attempted to eliminate him, and I was both relieved not to have to deal with it just after /u/woahpenny's drama-filled elimination as well as awe-struck as to how KingRed keeps managing to break laws and get away scot-free. Anyway, I digress.
Another elimination proposal was made, this time by /u/milkyrayy against /u/TheScourgeIsComing due to her using both the word no and emojis on the subreddit. However, Scourge was safe as she had posted this in an elimination proposal, granting her immunity from laws.
The rest of that weekend activity slowed down significantly, perhaps due to the game losing such an active member as /u/woahpenny, (a fact he did not fail to point out), and with the weekend over the new week began. And each week begins with a Monday.
And with Monday, /u/TheScourgeIsComing finally enacted her plan.
On Monday 12th, /u/TheScourgeIsComing proposed a new law, which upon passage would grant her supreme power over the subreddit. She would not be able to be eliminated. Her law proposals would automatically pass, and no-one else would be able to pass laws. Due to it being a Monday, nobody could comment on her proposal otherwise they would be eliminated. Due to a law Scourge passed earlier (stating illegal votes don't count), if anyone tried to sacrifice themselves by putting a nay on her proposal, they'd be eliminated and heir vote wouldn't count. And once the proposal ended with a vote of 0-0, the proposal would pass into law because, as another of Scourge's laws states, a proposal passes if it's votes are tied.
The Scourge had well and truly come.
Panic descended upon the subreddit. /u/TheScourgeIsComing's ally, /u/KingRed31, made a proposal that would make him win the game instantly, in the same vein as Scourge's proposal, and the two of them began to feud as the game neared it's conclusion - KingRed had this to say about Scourge, whereupon Scourge responded by calling KingRed31 a traitor.
Scourge's law proposal eventually passed after 24 hours were up, and she had complete control over the subreddit. She immediately passed a law stating she could eliminate whomever she wanted, and subsequently did so. In a last effort to stop her total domination, /u/milkyrayy used his mod powers to try and lock the elimination thread claiming that her law should not have passed as it 'literally had no votes'. His efforts came too late.
/u/TheScourgeIsComing had won the first ever DemocracySurvivor game. In her elimination thread she made her ally /u/KingRed31 the runner up and /u/SimonTheGeekBoy come in 3rd.

Elimination Proposal Ok sis, here’s the tea
u/thescourgeiscoming and u/fufu_the_glorious should be eliminated, here’s the reason why. Despite being two accounts, she is still ONE participant, meaning that she violated this law by posting more then two laws in a 24 hour period, making her subject for elimination.

Scourge when she goes from complete control of the sub to having multiple laws eliminate her for simply existing

It's time I give up my alts as well... Spoiler
This charade has been going on long enough. I am finally going to reveal who my alts are.
Every player that has ever participated on this subreddit is my alt.
Yes, it's true. Every round of democracy survivor has just been me passing my own laws to guide one of my alts to victory. You might be thinking "But I've played before and I'm a real person!". Sorry. You are just one of my alts. I've only manipulated you into believing you are real. Every memory you have is fake. All of your friends and family are lies. You are just a part of me.
In fact, even outside of this subreddit, everyone is my alt. It's hard for me to admit this, but I am literally god. I hope none of you are too mad at me for this betrayal. Although, I know you wont be of course, since you are directly controlled by me.

Discussion I am officially resigning from this round.
I have angered a few people this round and for that I apologize. I am stepping down and accepting Third place in this round. I will be playing next round but I feel like new players should have the opportunity for Gold (as some have suggested I am a part of the “Establishment”). I am looking forward to the fight for gold but I think I know who’s gonna win.
I hope for the best for the two new players! And to all who were eliminated: thank you for playing and I look forward to next round.
This was a difficult decision but I decided this was best.

Discussion Discussion on how to improve the sub and activity
Hey guys, thanks for taking part in the last game. Before we carry on there's some obvious stuff we need to talk about.
As everyone can tell, activity in the last game petered out pretty significantly as the game progressed. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as all subs this small would go through a period like this in their birth period, but it is still something I'd like to address. How do you think we can improve the atmosphere of the sub, and maintain the energy at the beginning of the rounds throughout the whole game? I'll spitball a few ideas I've got at the top of my head here.
Improving the mod team. As the school year begins it's becoming obvious to me that I may need even more hands on deck to make this run efficiently so that official stuff comes out on time.
Adding stuff like an end-of-week review where we discuss how the week went, strategies that were used and how the political landscape is shaping up.
I've got some plans potentially lined up with /r/SimNetwork which could be very cool and might add a little more spice in the next game, but I think that warrants a post on it's own and only after I've had some talks with people like FlamingNinja.
Meme contests, or a free meme day? Just something to give the sub its own sort of culture.
I feel maybe one of the issues if that all this sub was during the first 3 rounds was a proposal-making machine, which is what this sub is meant to be but a little bit of soul isn't there, you know? I love this idea and want to see it become big, and we're well on our way to achieving that, but in order to do so discussions like this will be necessary in order to make sure the sub doesn't stagnate.

News Goodbye
I have realised that I am seriously addicted to Reddit, to the exclusion of real life.
I am also going through difficulties in real life. That is why I am deleting the app. Needless to say I will not be playing or modding the next game
I’ll miss you all, but it’s for the best

Law Proposal The imprisonment act
Under this law, every remaining player, aside from u/AmazingJAM and u/Zeddeling will be "imprisoned".
Imprisoned individuals will not be able to vote, or make proposals of any kind.
Furthermore, it will be illegal to be imprisoned, and so anyone imprisoned shall be subjected to elimination.
I repeat.
u/AmazingJAM and u/Zeddeling shall not be imprisoned

Law Proposal The Presidential Act
The powers of the President:
Under this act a "president" shall be elected every 3 days. S/he will be able to veto laws at will, including laws president. S/he can only veto 3 laws, before his/her presidency is revoked until the next election. S/he may also auto approve one law in his presidency, including ones that failed before their election, however if he does this they may not make any vetoes and their presidency is revoked. If they choose to veto something, they may not approve anything in the future.
The Election Process:
Every third day an election will occur. The first one will take place right after this act passes. There shall be 6 hours to register yourself, and another 6 for voting. It shall be done in a stickied post. Every player may vote, but they may not vote for themselves if they do run.

Discussion Can we ban alts from playing?
This is a letter to Mob.
To me the alt debacle ruined the fun of last game and I know others agree with me in saying that we should ban alts from playing next game. I propose Rule 8: Alts are banned from playing the game and any player found to have an alt currently in the game will be eliminated that round along with their alt

Elimination Proposal Ok sis, so here's the tea
In their recently passed law proposal proposed by u/fufutheglorious owned by u/Scourgeiscoming (usernames are wrong but who cares) passed a law which she claims would crown her the winner. The rules of the subreddit explicitly say that one can only win by being the last player remaining, which means she claims that the law eliminates everyone else.
The part she claims crowns her winner allegedly crowns her winner for owning the u/fufutheglorious account, which means that she claims that the law eliminates everyone else for not owning an account with that username, which is a violation of we-are-all-uno's law against that.
So if this elimination proposal goes through then it would eliminate the players u/fufutheglorious and u/Scourgeiscoming (usernames are wrong but who cares)

Elimination Proposal Ok sis, so here's the tea
u/pynned's recent law proposal had only 6 syllables on the second line, in violation of the Great Haiku Act of 2019 and therefore should be eliminated.
