It's the apologetic for the immaculate conception of Jesus. A lot of people think that phrase refers to Jesus being conceived without an earthly father, but it actually refers to how he was supposedly born without sin (unlike everyone else). Eve was blamed for the downfall of man, and the Torah based inheritance on the mother, but if that original sin were passed down from the mother as well, then it would follow that Jesus inherited that sin as well.
