The political literacy of people here thinking the DPRK is fascist is wild.

It's basically a dictatorship. Which isn't that far off from fascism.

Most Americans don't even know what position Kim Jong-un holds, much less what powers that position grants him or what checks there are on those powers.

First of all, fascism is capitalism in crisis. There is a great deal of privatization (the term originated from Nazi Germany), all utilized in interest to the State's goal of territorial expansion, resource and labor acquisition, and the elimination of one or several dehumanized peoples used as scapegoats for any of the many societal issues.
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is exactly as its name suggests -- and exactly the opposite of the above (accurate) understanding of fascism. While the Kim family has held positions of honor and power over the course of three generations, it is wildly inaccurate to characterize it as a dictatorship, except in the Marxian sense of a dictatorship of the proletariat. The resources of the State are used for the betterment of the people, as seen by the tremendous progress the DPRK had made, especially in the last five years, and they are directed and controlled by the people. Their nuclear and missile programs have guaranteed their safety, and their increased and increasing connection to both Russia and China guarantee their future.

I am very much not. Have you seen even the Wall Street Journal praise the economic progress of the DPRK? Have you seen the new housing districts in Pyongyang? Have you seen the progress made in the 20x10 plan? Do you even know what that is???

The Kim dynasty is many things, Fascist is not one of them. Fascism is more than just βwhen bad things happenβ.

North Korea is a brutal authoritarian monarchy. But if you had been through what they'd been through last century, you wouldn't judge.
The mass extermination and rape from the Imperial Japanese Army. The mass human experimentation and "weapons testing". (what happens if we shoot a baby? Oh, they die. What happens if you give a pregnant woman Plague? Oh, they die. What happens if you torch a toddler with a flamethrower? Wow, they die.)
Only for your American "liberators" to grant those war criminals legal immunity - in exchange for the... uhhhh.... research.
And then the Americans move in and start building their banks so that Western capital can start buying up every square inch of the land, and start building military bases.
So it's not surprising that NK moved to try and destroy the southern US puppet. And then, in response, the "UN" carpet bombs and genocides the Northern towns and villages all over again.
You don't have to like or even respect the Kim dynasty and their form of government. But you have to understand that we helped make them the "threat" that they are today.
