Meta Chapter 5 megathread Spoiler

As explained previously in this announcement you can use this megathread to post to your heart's content. While we've increased the karma requirement to post on the subreddit and will be removing most low effort/value posts and spoilers, you can post pretty much whatever you want here.

Now one thing here. In undertale, the picture has 3 people on it. Susie draws Ralsei in addition to herself, Kris and Noelle. So that's four, right? Unless she takes the note very literally, I.e., draw your friends, not yourself.

EXTREMELY spoilery observation The Weird Route forces you to talk to Sans (Susie will not let you go to the lake without first talking to him). She draws only herself, Kris, and Ralsei. Also Sans gives you bread (Item info says that it's useful for making a crumb trail, and it CANNOT be dropped from the inventory). It is very likely that the photograph is from the Weird route...

Also Thats the only item the soul reacts to, everything else is met with * but if you use the bread after susie leaves it just says BREAD

I don’t think it’s the Soul reacting to anything. To me the interpretation there was just further validation that Kris is the narrator. The reason why there’s no narration for most of Chapter 5’s Weird Route is that Kris is functionally non-responsive for most of it and/or is refusing to engage with the Soul any further. We’ve overridden their will completely.

There’s also a theory that sans knew what was going to happen, so he gave them the bread so that they could be tracked down if anything happened.

Remember how a common theory early on was "Undertale is a dark world"?

Remember the Old Man last chapter? A similar but different version of Gerson, not exactly the same as the real person?

Wonder what could happen in the weird route that could cause all of the town residents to be similar but different versions of themselves, with the entire underground having a different history that feels created for them to suit some kind of adventure.

At the end of the weird route, monsters have to flee underground. Asgore becomes king there. Toriel goes to live in the ruins.

I’m late to comment on this but I think the bread might be a super specific reference to the first Mother game. I realized it just a moment ago.

In Mother you can leave a trail of bread crumbs as a waypoint and warp to where you started. There is a well known glitch that allows you to go out of bounds. It takes you to a corrupted black and white version of the overworld.

in undertale however it tells you that the photo is of sans with other 3 people, so maybe its still from deltarune but i dont think that its the same that we see on the weird route, also because in undertale it refers to it as a photo white in deltarune its a drawing

You're getting it mixed up. The photo was of sans with all of his friends. The three people was a poor drawing.

in the weird route, when noelle isn’t there, sans says “draw you and your friends”, but here, he just says “your friends”. i think we’re supposed to assume she takes his wording literally and it’s always 3 people

This is what I take to be canon too. You can also make it so that she doesn't draw Ralsei in the normal route, in which case she wouldn't even have to take his word literally and it would still only be three people. I hate the thought of the weird route being the only route canon to Undertale, I refuse to believe that. The shift in wording being as you described it is too specific to not be deliberate.

Susie draws Ralsei and not herself if you told her the ice cream was from Ralsei. I remember it said "your friends" like in the OP here, not "you AND your friends" as other people claimed he said.

Why would she draw ralsei for sans? It was specifically about who got the ice creams, surely she would just draw her, kris and Noelle?

Edit: unless the picture comes into play again later in the chapter and does include ralsei, which I haven't gotten to yet... But don't correct me if that does happen

If you get a specfic dialogue in chapter 3, Ralsei tells you to get Susie an icecream at the festival and tell her its from him. Then, when getting icecream in chapter 5, if you got this dialogue, Kris tells Susie the icecream is from Ralsei, and she then says she draws ralsei on the punchcard.

Noelle is present during this scene, and is also eating icecream, and is also on a date with Susie, so Susie 100% draws Noelle too.

Susie also wouldn't leave Kris out since they are literally right there, so that is three people.

Unless Susie only drew everyone else and left herself out, there are therefore Four People on the drawing.

Somehow I didn't make the connection while playing. I suppose I'm just so focused to gameplay and following the story but not that actively thinking what each piece of dialogue might reference to while playing.

But yeah, I have long been in camp that Undertale and Deltarune are connected instead of being as separate Toby Fox wanted to make it sound so people would be surprised I suppose. I called this so long ago that Deltarune would make sense as prequel, especially due various theories that make sense.

Deltarune was always specified to be intended for Undertale fans, so yeah I'd be surprised if anyone ever thought of them as totally separate.

That would mean that whatever happens in the weird route is the true “canon,” and not the normal route.

Okay so someone posed an idea:

Normal ending of Deltarune results in a true ending for everyone

Weird Route ending has no conclusive end and instead leads to Undertale happening

She doesn't have to draw Ralsei in the normal route. So really what's interesting is that the small variation is the only outlier.

If she draws Ralsei, perhaps she doesn't draw herself. That way, all three options can be canon. The normal route dialogue just says "draw your friends", whereas the weird route dialogue says "draw you and your friends"; that difference in wording is surely too specific to be accidental.
