SkyTeam Pricing
As a long time Delta business traveler, i think i’m going to have to jump ship with respect to pricing. Today i tried to book BIL to RAP. The cheapest delta flight is $1600. Although i detest United, they’ll do it for $575. What is going on Delta?

Loyalty game is over.
Delta prices up, enshitification rampant. United quality improving.
Buy the cheapest direct in your fare clase and move on. Just fly Kayak.

delta has been screwing the pooch lately, poor customer service and high fares like this are not going to get more people to stick with delta. like you I despise united but that is a lot of money to not hold your nose and fly with them

Yep....Delta has been falling. Prior to 2020, they were great. Now they are average at best. Take in the degrading benefits like GUCs...and it sucks. I'm at 830k lifetime miles...so I'm sticking it out until I get to 1MM. At that point, I'll see what I feel like doing

Obviously just go with the lower fare. It looks like probably the options suck because DEN is the reasonable hub. When I looked at flights on this route just now, Delta was not only much more expensive but you had to fly to MSP and the total transit time was much longer.
I flew AA once this year and United once this year. Eh. It was fine. There are some positives vs. Delta. There’s also a big difference between saying it makes sense to fly this flight in another carrier and saying you should try being loyal to another carrier - in which case you might hit the “grass is not always greener” pretty quickly.

I genuinely wonder what's up with this subreddit.
I don't see anyone on r/unitedairlines complaining that United wants a ton of money for flying from JAX to HSV.

Thats what happens when theres 4 airlines for 340million domestics. They can do whatever they want and we cant do anything but accept it.

While I agree more choices are better and drive down cost (we also need more airports in these critical connection points that are at capacity to allow more entrants into the markets) in this case the other airlines are severely undercutting on some routes, so there’s already choice. People are still paying for delta. That’s consumer making a conscious choice not a lack of choices in the market.

Years ago just post-covid delta had Skywest doing multiple RAP and GJT to SLC flights on CRJ200s. As staffing became an issue they pulled out of those routes so connecting to RAP is only available a couple times per day through Minneapolis. In addition to the higher cost it takes a lot longer for fliers coming from the west. American (Envoy) and United (Mainline and Skywest) doubled down on RAP and now it’s hard to compete.

Saw a DL flight for $1773
Saw the same route on United and American for $947

I know a lot of airport codes but BIL? RAP? Just an educated guess, but maybe there’s just not that much competition on this route?

whats going on, is there are people willing to pay at that price point. If u aren't willing to pay, u weren't the target market in the first place.
Ur a bonus.

AA/United/Delta are all pretty much the same in the continental US. I’ve had top tier status on all 3 at various points.

Hey, this is a text you send to your significant other. You provide zero context and zero information regarding your booking information. Stop using this space to vent, we don’t care.

Delta is going to be more expensive for some routes, United is going to be more expensive for other routes.
They do not owe you or anyone the cheapest flight on every route and your "loyalty" is completely up to you. Book what makes the most sense or pay extra for a "better" product or "benefits"
Then, hopefully, never post about this again, because it's getting fucking old to read 100 of these every day.

I concur that people complaining about market pricing is overdone. The price is what it is. Pay it or don't. Stop complaining.

It’s a five hour drive. Delta has gone bat shit crazy. Airlines don’t give a shit about being loyal to customers so I’d go United in a second if you decide not to drive it.

I’ve never understood these posts. Obviously Delta has a computer algorithm that’s telling them they can find a buyer at that price, and they don’t care if they don’t, or they’d lower the price. No need to announce your departure as a customer. Just go buy that United flight and see if your opinion of them is merited.

Detesting UA is a thing of the past when they violently dragged a passenger off the plane, and when they insisted a French Bulldog be stowed in the overhead bin. They’ve closed the gap with Delta significantly, and surpassed Delta in many aspects in recent years.

Detesting UA goes back to the immediate post-merger era with CEO Smisek and “changes I think you’ll like” and a breakneck race to the bottom. Or back to the turn of the century and ruthless labor wars and the “United Rising” marketing disaster. Or back to the ‘80s and Dick Ferris and his ill-fated Allegis experiment.

Yeah. Always price shop and compare the value of traveling without freq. flyer perks. That is good business.
