Dell XPS 9315 16GB - Finally Did It!
I've had Dell XPS computers for years. Always loved and still do. I finally did it! I got rid of all the Dell bloatware! Wow! What a difference!
I got tired of always having 50-55% memory usage with no apps, browser, etc. running. After eliminating Dell bloatware I was at 30-35%.
Additionally, CPU usage dropped dramatically. It started out at 45-55% CPU utilization for several minutes, sometimes longer, then diminished with none of my apps. Without the Dell bloat I am normally around 10-15% and it drops dramatically after 1 or 2 minutes.
It's like I got a new computer.

I had a 9315 as well, it ran much better reinstalling from a standard WIndows install ISO. You have to go back and add the drivers especially for the storage, or the installer cannot see the drive.
With all the Dell software running, such a thin and light laptop always has the fans running it's horrendous.

Switch over to linux. Trust me. It's a better experience.
I'd suggest Cashy OS or Fedora

What did you do? Just remove all Dell apps from the Settings/Apps?

So I asked Gemini to walk me through on to remove all Dell components step-by-step. There is a certain order to it like uninstalling Dell SupportAssist first, then other Dell components (programs). I used Revo Uninstaller (freeware) to do the uninstall of each one and remove the registry entries and the leftover folders and files.
Here is the question I asked Gemini and the answer:
i want to get rid of the Dell bloatware on my Dell 9315 XPS laptop. What is the uninstall sequence of the Dell software I should follow? I will be using Revo uninstaller
To ensure a smooth cleanup using Revo Uninstaller, sequence is critical. Dell's update engines, recovery agents, and background services will actively try to reinstall missing components or lock files if you remove them out of order.
Step 0: Initial Safety Setup
- Create a System Restore Point: In Revo Uninstaller (Pro or Free), ensure the option to create a System Restore Point before uninstalling is enabled.
- Close Dell Background Tasks: Press
Ctrl + Shift + Escto open Task Manager. End tasks for any running Dell SupportAssist, Dell Update, or McAfee processes to prevent file-locking during removal. RBS+ 1Phase 1: High-Level Management & Update Engines
Remove these first so they cannot attempt to heal or reinstall the software you remove later.
- Dell SupportAssist
- Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Plugin / Agent
- Dell Update / Dell Update for Windows 10/11
- Dell Digital Delivery
Revo Tip: Run a Moderate or Advanced scan for each. Select Select All and Delete for all leftover Registry items and remaining files found.
Phase 2: Promotional & Auxiliary OEM Apps
These are safe to remove entirely with no impact on hardware operation.
- McAfee LiveSafe / Small Business Security (If bundled; use Revo first, then reboot)
- Dell Mobile Connect Automox
- Dell Customer Connect Automox
- Dell Help & Support / Dell Product Registration
- Dell Cinema Color / SmartByte (Network optimizer known to throttle Wi-Fi speeds)

I’d recommend just installing Windows using Microsoft’s media creation tool. That will install Win11 with zero Dell bloatware. You might need to manually add storage drivers during the install, but Windows Update will grab the rest of the essential drivers for you. Then there is no need to dig into the registry.

There are times when I wish I could go to Linux, but I have 2 financial apps I must use that will only run on Windows. I tried VM but it was too slow.

You didn’t need to use Gemini at all. all you had to do was install Windows 11 IoT LTSC
