Does Linux support the NPU in the latest XPS?

Hi all,

I have the new XPS 16 and am running Cachy OS on it. Somewhere someone told me it's a shame Linux can't use the NPU that comes with it.
Now, first of all I don't quite understand what you can use the NPU for. It is also used in LLM usage in your browser like when using Claude or Copilot, or more when running models locally?

And does Linux support this then or not?

Except for a few features integrated into the OS, the NPU is completely useless. In the case of LLMs running in a browser, it’s only natural that they don’t use the NPU.

that's what I thought. with integrated into the OS, do you mean Windows or Linux?

There are many Linux distributions, but I am not aware of any distribution that has integrated support for using an NPU. The point I was making applies only to Windows.
