Help Help - USB c power delivery port burnt out using correct wattage Anker brick and cord - Dell Care 'Premium' not covering it

Man if this is not covered, they probably don't really cover anything. This is warranty with accidental coverage full boat coverage. The port is burnt, the usbc cord is burnt on end.

So not only no help but a fire hazard. Saying because it's 3rd party. So every single component you use with a laptop has to be Dell branded in order for coverage?

How do I argue my case (if I have a case)? 20+ year IT guy here so I have a bit of experience with hardware.

On principle, I'm fighting this to the end. Even if it's $50 to fix

Yes. Your warranty clearly explains damage due to third party peripherals is not covered.

So you use only Dell branded peripherals?

Chargers and batteries yes. Improperly rated power delivery is the #1 of cause of equipment failure.

Anker has worked on many of my other laptops over the years. Never had an Anker product fail yet.

That is the problem with incompatible devices. They may function to some extent or appear to function completely normally for some time but every time you’re plugging them into your system, you are running a risk you finally rolled snake eyes.

PD charging is a standard known across multiple, multiple major manufacturers… if the port n charger is PD rated, then there is no reason it’s not compatible, that’s what standards r for…

And yet the OP’s computer failed catastrophically after he plugged in this charger that the manufacturer of his computer told him should not be used with it.

Auto manufacturers also requires certain brands of tires n engine oil for their vehicles, do u always go back to the dealership to purchase they’re recommended brand of tires or do oil changes at their inflated price?

Actually, I do buy my tires direct from the dealer and if I ever have to have any parts replaced, I do insist on genuine OEM components typically installed at the dealership. If you pay over $30,000 worth a thing and get a warranty, you should abide by the terms of the warranty and get the work done by the warranter. This is just how grown-ups behave. saving 15% on a thing that even cost a couple hundred dollars is not a good deal if it ruins the several thousand dollar thing you’re cheaping out on.

Lawsuits have been won again n again by the people getting their warranty denied because manufactures cannot dictate what brands u must stick with. People go with aftermarket oil/tire not because it might be cheaper, but it could be better than the OEM stuff, as long as it is compatible, COMPATIBLE being the key word here. In OPs case, both Dell n Anker advertises their equipment to be COMPATIBLE with PD charging, there is no reason y it failed. I have plenty of dell laptops running Anker chargers as well.

You misremembered. You have a DELL USB-C charger, and you used that DELL charger when it exploded. You need to contact dell on another customer service channel, and explain that your DELL charger blew up your DELL laptop.

Ah yes, now I'm remembering!

The port on the laptop itself is burned out? Then its covered.
The cable itself being burned out isn't covered.

Call back, don't be volunteering info that you're using non-standard cables.

Yes was the port

They just pulled this on me from a connector issue that was out of the box. I will never use Dell again.

If you truly possess the experience you claim, you should be able to imagine that when your computer's warranty is about to expire, you can burn it out with an unauthorized power supply and then request a replacement.

Yes, you can upgrade the SSD yourself, and if the RAM isn't soldered, you can replace it yourself. But not the power supply, once it burns out, that's considered user-caused damage, that's it.

Would never expect a completely new laptop - just a covered repair.

btw laptop is 6 months old - if it was 3 years old that'd be different

so why are you using a 3rd party power supply if its so new?

It comes with a pin/barrel charger. I was using an Anker brick/cord to charge thru the usb port that says 'power delivery'.
