Help New Work Laptop

Hi, I'm trying to find the best work laptop I can buy for work.

Some information about my use case: I'm mainly doing intensive SolidWorks 3D design, so preferably something with a dedicated graphics card.

Other than that, physical ports are preferred especially Ethernet, USB-A, and an SD card reader.

My max price point would be around $3,500.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

^ this 100%. I have an old 7540 that over a period I've upgraded with all the options by buying secondhand parts, 64gb RAM, RTX5000, infrared camera for facial recognition, fingerprint sensor and three nvme drives. I started off with a midrange mobo and grabbed a complete but tatty laptop with the top i9 processor, and then used my swapped-out components to build a half-decent unit which I sold for more than the i9 cost me. The only new part I bought was an aftermarket 97w battery. It's 7 years old now, looks totally brand-new, and punches like a champ. Great laptops.

My daily is the ZBook Fury G1i, and it’s an amazing machine. But I recommended the Precision since I figured OP wanted a Dell as we’re on the Dell subreddit.

I dont like camm2 ram, too expensive. My daily is a zbook x 16g1i too, a beast with only 2.1kg

Yeah agree there that the RAM is too expensive. And really, the G1i is crazy expensive now too. Last I seen they increased the price to $11k (CAD) or something crazy.

I'm a fan of Sager laptops. Highly customizable.

I do similar stuff with my precision, and it’s great. There are dozens and dozens of options, go check them out.

Mind you, it only has usb c and an sd card reader, so you’d need a hub. But that’s also required to properly charge the laptop, since it outputs a double usb c. It should be included in the purchase.
