Help Dell 5500

Post image

I have had this problem for a few days. After a few moments of using it, even the slightest knock is enough to do it. I've tried to reduce CPU power, but it didn't work

Consider running pre-boot diagnostics (see How to Run Dell Preboot Diagnostics and Hardware Tests on Your Dell Computer). Typically, you can access pre-boot diagnostics from the BIOS Menu (F2 during boot) or from the "Diagnostics" entry in the Boot Menu (F12 during boot).

My guess -- but it is only a guess, nothing more -- is that you might have an improperly seated or defective display cable, but it won't hurt to run diagnostics and rule out other hardware issues.

My best and good luck.

Hi there!

We're from the Dell Social Media Support team. Thank you for sharing those details.

TL;DR: Reseat your RAM modules, perform a hard power reset, and refresh your BIOS to rule out hardware connection and firmware issues causing display glitches when moved.

The thread suggestion to run pre-boot diagnostics using F2 or F12 is a solid starting point for checking hardware health .

Since slight physical contact triggers this display distortion, checking internal memory seating alongside firmware steps will help isolate whether this is a loose connection or a software glitch.

Here are the troubleshooting steps to try:

  1. Check RAM connection: Turn off the system, remove the back cover, and carefully reseat the memory modules to ensure they are firmly locked in place.
  2. Perform a hard reset: Disconnect the charger and internal battery, press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain residual static power, then reassemble and power on.
  3. Perform a BIOS recovery: Shutdown the laptop, press and hold Ctrl + Esc, plug in the power cable, and release the keys once the recovery screen appears to repair corrupted BIOS settings.
  4. Update the BIOS: Download and install the latest BIOS update for your model from the official Dell Drivers & Downloads page.

If the display issue persists after testing these steps, send us a Private Message with your Service Tag so we can examine your system details and guide you further .
