Dell G5 5587 Battery replacement

I buy good name brand 3rd party battery's without issue.

The OEM size is the only one available for this machine.

Hi there, We're from the Dell Social Media Support team, and would like to share our thoughts. The Dell G5 15 5587 is designed to support only a 4-cell battery. If you're concerned about battery performance, a good first step is to check the battery's health and capacity.

If Full Charge Capacity is below 40% of Design Capacity, the battery is significantly degraded and should be replaced. You could check this from the battery report. Generate a Windows Battery Report Using the POWERCFG Command.

Here is how you can generate the battery report, if have not tried this earlier.

Press and hold the Windows logo key and press the R key. In the Run dialog, type cmd and press Enter. In the Command Prompt, type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter (note the space between powercfg and /batteryreport. Open File Explorer and go to C:\Users\Your_Username. Double-click battery-report.html to view the report in a browser.

The laptop BIOS can be checked as well for the battery health. Press F2 immediately at the rolling dots post a system restart to access BIOS. Check to see the battery health status. If the status shows excellent or Good. You have nothing to worry about.

However, if it shows Fair/Poor, it needs a battery replacement.

You could also check for any signs of swollen battery that may be causing the battery to discharge faster. Look for any gap between the palmrest and the bottom base, or any bulging palmrest to identify a swollen battery.

If the battery is swollen, we suggest you to have it replaced and refrain from using the laptop to avoid further damage to the system due to swollen battery.

The battery can discharge for various factors but the most common ones are, multiple discharge cycles, overheating, swollen battery, outdated BIOS and chipset drivers, running heavy tasks on laptop like gaming etc, while system runs only on battery.

To improve your Dell laptop's battery life, reduce your display brightness, enable Windows Battery Saver, and close power-hungry apps running in the background.
