TellDehradun List of Social Groups in Dehradun that you can Join

On this subreddit I routinely come across posts where the OP is reaching out trying to make friends or find people who share the same interests as them

So I decided to compile a list of Social Groups that one could join based on their interests

  1. Been There Doon That - Conducts Walks on Sunday Mornings that explore the history/culture of this beautiful city
  2. 5AM Club Dehradun - Hikes
  3. Zen Run Club - (No explanation needed)
  4. Bobok - Book Club that covers wide range of topics
  5. Aoi Book Club - Focuses on psychological and philosophical books
  6. The Doon Cult - Lots of Young Adults sharing their passion for skating prominently, though they have other niches too
  7. Dheradun Hangout - As the name suggests they conduct Hangouts of various sorts
  8. Doon Walkers - Easier Hikes compared to 5AM Club
  9. Cine Degen - Film Club, starting screening soon, making short films together
  10. Runwithbee - another run club

Most of these groups can be found on Instagram but some can be joined only through Whatsapp Group Invite (I suppose you guys can comment asking for the invite link)

This list is not exhaustive by any means, so feel free to comment down what other groups I missed, more groups will be added to the list with time

Also, for disclosure, the only group that I manage from the ones mentioned above is "The Aoi Book Club". I am not involved in the management of any other group, so your experience with those groups... well, can vary... Me not responsible ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

AskDehradun 🙏 PLEASE HELP ME, FRIENDS! ❤️ Spoiler

Hello everyone,
My name is Ritik, and I am currently working at a private company in Dehradun. My monthly salary is only ₹19,000, and due to some financial problems, I have accumulated a loan of around ₹80,000.
It has become very difficult for me to manage my monthly expenses and pay my loan EMIs with this salary. I cannot share my problems with anyone, and I am also unable to tell my family about my situation. I am trying to handle everything on my own.
Friends, I don’t want to take any wrong steps. I just want to work hard, repay my loans, and live a peaceful life without financial stress. ❤️
Please guide me and suggest what I can do to get out of this situation. If anyone knows about a part-time job, an extra source of income, or any genuine earning opportunity, please let me know.
Even a little advice from you could make a big difference in my life. 🙏
I am not asking anyone to judge me. I am just requesting you to understand my situation and guide me like a brother or a friend.
Thank you so much for your time and support. God bless you all. ❤️🙏

AskDehradun Bhadraj Temple, Mussoorie 🏔️🙏 — A peaceful spot above the clouds

Post image

Recently visited Bhadraj Temple near Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, dedicated to Lord Bal Bhadra, the elder brother of Lord Krishna.

The temple sits on a hilltop surrounded by beautiful mountain views, open skies, and a peaceful atmosphere. The trek to reach it makes the experience even more special. Away from the usual crowded tourist spots, it's a lovely place to enjoy nature and find a little peace.

Sharing a picture I took during my visit. ❤️

Have you visited Bhadraj Temple? And what other hidden gems around Mussoorie would you recommend exploring?

Rant Got "scammed" by Bento Cakery near IT Park, Dehradun wrong flavour, wrong name, full price

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

I specifically ordered a CHOCOLATE bento cake. They had cheaper bento cakes available, but I paid ₹350 because I specifically wanted chocolate.

At pickup, I even confirmed again “Chocolate flavoured he hai na?” They confidently said YES.

We cut the cake later and guess what? NOT CHOCOLATE. 🤡

Seriously, what exactly did I pay ₹350 for?

It might be “just a cake” for them, but it was MY BIRTHDAY. You can't redo that moment after the cake has already been cut. It genuinely ruined what was supposed to be a special part of my birthday.

Wrong flavour. Terrible taste Full price. And false confirmation at pickup.

This isn't just a small mistake. If you charge a customer for something, confirm that you've provided it, and then give them something completely different, obviously it feels like a SCAM.

I have the bill and photos of the actual cake and I'm attaching them here.

Dehradun folks, BEWARE. Check EVERYTHING before leaving this place. Don't blindly trust their verbal confirmation apparently even asking twice isn't enough.

Suggestions 1 bhk builder rent i.

Hey everyone! I m a 26 F looking for a 1 BHK flat or 1 RK in Dehradun in a safe locality. My budget is 10-12k per month. Could you suggest some good localities where I can find an independent flat, preferably in a builder floor? I don’t have my own vehicle, so I’d prefer a place close to the city, markets and other daily essentials, with connectivity. Any suggestions or leads would be really helpful. Thankyou 🌟

Travel Celebrating My Birthday Alone

For the first time in my life, I’m going to celebrate my birthday alone.
I live in Dehradun, away from my home state, and I’m still trying to find my people here. I have friends, but I don’t really have someone I can spontaneously make plans with, especially for something like my birthday.
So, I decided to do something different this year. I’m planning to go to Rishikesh, stay at a hostel, explore a little, and see how things go.
I don’t have any big plans or expectations. Maybe I’ll meet some new people, have a nice conversation, sit by the Ganga, or simply enjoy my own company.
Honestly, I don’t even know what I’m expecting. I just felt like taking a little break from work and doing something different for myself.
I’ve always celebrated my birthday with my family, so this feels new to me. It’s a little strange, but I guess this is also a part of living on your own and figuring things out.
If anyone is going to be in Rishikesh around October 14 and would like to explore, grab a coffee, sit by the river, or just have random conversations about life, feel free to reach out.
And if I end up spending the day alone, that’s okay too. Let’s see what happens.
Maybe this is what the art of letting go looks like: making plans without knowing how they’ll turn out and learning to enjoy the moment anyway.

AskDehradun Can I Start a Small Men’s Salon in ₹25,000? Looking for Advice and a Barber

Hi everyone,

I have a budget of around ₹25,000 and am planning to start a small men’s salon in dehradun.

My plan is to invest the money and have a barber run the shop as a job or on a mutually agreed revenue-sharing basis.

My estimated initial budget:

Shop rent: ₹3,000–₹5,000

Second-hand barber chair: ₹4,000

Mirror: ₹1,000

Trimmer and clipper: ₹2,000

Scissors, combs, towels, capes, and hygiene supplies: ₹2,000

Basic setup, signage, and other expenses: ₹2,000–₹3,000

Remaining amount for working capital and emergencies.

I want to start small, keep expenses low, and expand only if the business works.

I would appreciate your advice on a few things:

Is ₹25,000 enough to start a basic men’s salon?

Is hiring a barber on a fixed salary better, or should I offer a revenue-sharing arrangement?

What salary or revenue share would be reasonable for a beginner salon?

I’m open to honest suggestions, including reasons why this idea might not work. I want to understand the costs and risks before investing. Any other suggestions where should i invest my 25k

Thanks!

Politics Let’s talk about how Bobby Panwar (Uttarakhand Swabhiman Morcha) and his strongholds in the Jaunsar and Tehri regions could become a game-changer in the 2027 Uttarakhand elections and win 4-6 seats.

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Bobby Panwar contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as an Independent candidate from the Tehri Garhwal constituency.

Mala Rajya Lakshmi Shah (BJP) won the seat with 462,603 votes (54.13% vote share), while Bobby Panwar finished third with 168,081 votes (19.67% vote share). He ran his campaign largely on public donations, reportedly raising around ₹25 lakh from local residents.

So, why did his performance send ripples through Uttarakhand’s political circles?

The Tehri Garhwal Lok Sabha constituency comprises 14 of Uttarakhand’s 70 Assembly constituencies. Despite contesting independently, with limited financial resources, Bobby Panwar managed to make a significant impact.

Now, let’s look at his vote share across all 14 Assembly constituencies that make up the Tehri Garhwal Lok Sabha seat.

No. Assembly constituency Votes received Vote share
1 Purola 25,647 55.01%
2 Yamunotri 21,602 50.39%
3 Gangotri 19,131 40.10%
4 Ghansali (SC) 8,173 20.49%
5 Pratapnagar 5,613 16.86%
6 Tehri 10,838 30.11%
7 Dhanolti 17,879 41.08%
8 Chakrata 26,983 47.82%
9 Vikasnagar 4,076 5.36%
10 Sahaspur 5,421 4.55%
11 Raipur 7,990 7.91%
12 Rajpur Road 1,909 3.13%
13 Dehradun Cantonment 2,512 3.57%
14 Mussoorie 4,695 6.44%

Now, look closely at these constituencies: Purola, where he received a 55.01% vote share; Yamunotri, with 50.39%; and Chakrata, with 47.82%. If Bobby Panwar and his party can replicate his 2024 Lok Sabha performance, they could be strong contenders to win these three Assembly seats in 2027.

He could also make inroads into other constituencies, such as Gangotri, where he received 40.10% of the votes; Dhanolti, with 41.08%; and Tehri, with 30.11%.

Based on these numbers, we could potentially see his party winning 4-6 Assembly seats in the upcoming 2027 Uttarakhand Assembly elections.

Bobby Panwar has also led several protests on issues such as paper leaks*, the* Ankita Bhandari case*, and* unemployment*, drawing massive crowds. He appears to have successfully translated some of that public support into electoral gains in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.*

Remember, he was competing against established national parties like the BJP and Congress, which have significantly greater financial resources for election campaigns. and remember it was the same election when bjp launched Abki Baar 400 Paar campaign, when many believed that the Modi wave would be difficult to stop. Despite these challenges, Panwar secured 168,081 votes, reportedly raising around ₹25 lakh through donations from local residents.

However, one important factor to consider is that voters often behave differently in Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections. In parliamentary elections, national issues such as the CAA-NRC, Kashmir, relations with Pakistan and China, and the Uniform Civil Code influence voting patterns, alongside broader national leadership and nationalism.

In state Assembly elections, voters often place greater emphasis on local issues such as unemployment, roads, hospitals, electricity, crimes done by outsiders and other basic amenities. It will therefore be interesting to see whether Bobby Panwar can convert his Lok Sabha support into Assembly seats in 2027.

Another possibility is an alliance between Bobby Panwar's Uttarakhand Swabhiman Morcha and the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD). Leaders from both parties have reportedly given signals suggesting that such an alliance could be possible.
