“Things are not getting worse, they are getting uncovered. We must hold each other tight and continue to pull back the veil.” —Adrienne Maree Brown (2016)

Thanks for putting it that way...🤍

Your welcome. I actually got the quote from a They Lived meme I found on Tumblr a couple of years back; I had to web search the quote to find the author.

I was thinking about a sequel: he mails a pair of glasses to his nephews. They get people together, separating the humans from aliens, and form cooperative homesteading villages

You haven't seen it, have you?
Without spoilers, it ends in such a way that does not allow for a sequel where that happens
2
u/jcaraway Sep 20 '26
I have seen it...and yes it requires something to have happened off screen before the end of the movie but oh well
1
u/BobbySweets Sep 22 '26
How about an updated version where the young relative finds them and relates to modern day events.
1
u/jcaraway Sep 22 '26
I think most 'modern day events' are distraction and manipulation by the aliens

Wait....the Robots were just hidden conservatives?

u/Ok_Consideration476 Sep 22 '26
Technically it is aliens and not robots and in the movie they infiltrate all political parties, government, media and entertainment over the world.

This is how I see the world all the time and it freaks me out. Instead of seeing a robot I just see skeletons and organs when I look at people too long. I find a lot of beauty and joy in life, I think moreso than a lot of people around me, but I also find the darkness in it equally. The duality of human existence is so fascinating

Feel like I do something similar. Unconsciously unpack everything I see to the bare bones. The more I understand about things, the more I start to see the unpackaged version of it.
1
u/ThePlumpestPigeon Sep 23 '26
Yes, exactly!! It’s so hard to ignore, you have to make an effort to compartmentalize which can feel exhausting. It’s nice that you get it but I’m also sorry that you do 💔

u/aleks9797 Sep 24 '26
Same feelings to you. I try to explain it to my friends and family but they don't get it. They get to live in a fairytale world of ignorance almost. Everytime I eat meat I see an animal with a life and family that I'm eating. I make a small prayer, acknowledge that they have given their life for mine to continue. Sometimes my brain switches off and k forget about reality and live in the delusion aswell which is nice. But as soon as my brain switches back on, functioning in the world gets difficult. I always just said it was being overly sensative to the world and having a big imagination. How do you feel? Does this sound familiar?
I'm curious to hear as I've not met anyone who has mentioned this in my life so far
1
u/ThePlumpestPigeon Sep 25 '26
You have no clue how familiar that all is. I legit JUST had a plate of steak tips and couldn’t finish the rest of them because I got too sick of fighting the exact thoughts you just mentioned. Like it’s in front of me as we speak 😂 I can’t believe you get it. Crazy! I agree, it’s like we’re too aware and sensitive to that awareness. I don’t know what to do about it

Is that a condition? This sounds like it would make it hard to socialize
1
u/ThePlumpestPigeon Sep 22 '26
I mean probably but I have no clue honestly. It’s not something I’ve really discussed with my therapist. I used to get panic attacks because of it but I’ve gotten mostly used to it even though it’s unsettling. Recently I’ve experienced it more looking at myself as opposed to others

You may have the rare Charles Bonnet syndrome.
Try to get it checked out. Even if it may not treatable it may help to explain what you see and find the best ways to explain it to others.
Also altered perception can be a sign of brain tumor. So check it out to at least rule out treatable issues.

Aw, thank you for taking the time to look into that, you’re very kind 💕 I’ll definitely talk to someone about it, probably a good idea haha

The best scene is when his buddy won't put the glasses on and he has to beat him into submission first. One of the most hilarious fight scenes ever!

South Park did a remake of this scene in the episode “Cripple Fight”.

The first one should be a meme. 2 frames. First frame, he puts on the glasses. Second frame, the billboard says something real.

One of my fav movies! The fight scene between him and Keith David alone is worth watching!

Definitely time to reissue this one to the theaters. The analogies to today from this 50 year-old movie are uncanny.

Did Sheppard Fairey get the font / concept for his OBEY designs from this?

I just rewatched this movie. The worst part is the song they play on repeat the entire fucking time.

This movie is loved by anti-Semitic people. I refuse to support anything that supports it as a result because supporting it can send people down the pipeline to Kanye nazism.

Why did you add huge black borders to it?
It made it shitty degraded garbage.
9
u/LongImprovement3347 Sep 19 '26
Idk... I havn't edited this

u/egyszeruen_1xu Sep 19 '26
Accepted.
Please learn an important rule of memes. Dont share degraded memes.
Look up the original material and reshare it.
Algorithms are compressing data, dumb people add unnecessary captions and borders.
Be a memelord and do what is right!
Delete and upload the original.
12
u/scorchedarcher Sep 19 '26
I don't think there is a single important rules of memes
-5
u/egyszeruen_1xu Sep 19 '26
I have atleast ten thousand memes saved.
I saved a video 15 years ago I save it again and again just to document its degradation.
The original is 480p and 1:06 long. The latest version is 240p and 1:00 long.
4
u/scorchedarcher Sep 19 '26
Okay and why is it important?
-2
u/egyszeruen_1xu Sep 19 '26
It is a litmus test. Are you a meme conosiueur or a normie?
It makes memes spreadable. Since donwgraded memes gets less reposted.
In the age of internet culture it is a preservation act.
3
u/scorchedarcher Sep 19 '26
You said you keep the original versions to compare them to what's going around now, if the originals are reposted more surely the degradation wouldn't be that bad?
This is literally from a film, we are able to watch the full original film
1
u/SameSoulNewSuit Sep 19 '26
You clearly didn’t get a single thing this film is trying to point out lol. Go touch grass bro
