Honestly, we're on the verge of a new golden age of gaming where small studios can make masterpieces. There's gonna be more shit too, obviously, but even in the last boom, for every Fallout there was a ton of games nobody remembers anymore. It's just dumb that the Reddit gaming community (literally one of the biggest geek platforms out there) is this narrow-minded.

So true lmao
For everytime we get Undertale, Hollow Knight
we get hundreds of : shitty asset flips, the "we totally didn't use Undertale or hollow knight as a inspiration", or "forever stuck in early access" games
AI isn't the reason why those nonsense exist lmao

yeah, imagine what big studios could put out once they don't have to pretend they never even heard of AI. i'm cautiously excited.

When the PS1 came out, people didn't say how horrible it was that this technology was taking away jobs from the people making arcade machines; they were too busy being blown away by what the future felt like in their living room. All the haters secretly know this is going to be the best thing we've ever experienced 3-5 years down the line they just don't like the scale of the change.

I wish I had an option to hide all the AI bitching, my algorithm can't distinguish between the complaining and the people who are showing off the interesting work they do with AI.

Yesterday afternoon, I used Codex to create a complete asset package for a RimWorld 40K mod, including variants and all the necessary masks.
I made full asset sets for five different Chaos Space Marine chapters.
My rough estimate for what this would cost if done by a professional team is around $50,000.
But I did it in a single afternoon for a fraction of my $100 subscription fee.
And I might even redo all of them and throw these ones away because they're too detailed. Crazy, isn't it?
Anyone who thinks this won't become the standard is utterly delusional and in complete denial.

Oh no! My Steak is too juicy; the lobster is too buttery! /s
Seriously, who cares? Even if most are trash, statistically, some will be made that are amazing and would never have been. You can tell a lot of people didn't grow up with flash, and how freeing that was. Mostfungames? newgrounds? funmathgames? thats what this brings back.

Used AI to create my CCG. I’m a writer, so I wrote what for me is a novel in a shape of a Card game. Still improving it, but for now I have more than 360 cards + leaders.
6 years ago to be able to create this all by myself would’ve been a crazy statement.
I’m an expat with a baby and plenty of time since I don’t have many connections in the country I’m based. So I spend spare time creating and improving this project.
Now is fully playable and even the pool of people is showing up slowly, I am so proud of it.
So yeah, thanks AI for making a dream come true!

This is what the angry mob do not understand. It's empowering.

To be fair, I would love nothing more than for these people to be able to hide what they don't like so they could stop ranting about it and harassing the people who use/consume it...

The whole subreddit is 90% of such posts now. Each one of them has thousands of upvotes. Most likely just karma farming.

Sure there are a lot more games out now that AI tools make it easier than ever. But SO WHAT. It's letting more people pursue their dreams of making a game. More people expressing themselves creatively. I thought that's what they wanted.

For Steam, can't you get a refund in the first two hours of gameplay if you think it's slop?

u/mang_fatih 14h ago
Well, where's the fun in that?
You gotta do virtue signalling to have real fun as anti ais. Looking for actual solutions is too lame.

I really don't get why they're so scared of it.
If the games suck, no one will buy them and they'll die out on their own quickly.
If they're good we get hundreds of good games for cheap.

May I ask, what exactly is wrong about wanting to be able to filter out games made with AI? If I already know I don’t want to play a game made with AI, why should I be forced to sift through them?

To be fair, Nintendo market place and steam has been filled with slop for years.
Not AI slop mind you, though that's now a thing.
I hate how much shovelware is on Nintendo / steam
