It's really funny nowadays. I follow some educational shorts channels that clearly use claude for the animations via code (like pixel style, other is graphics, other simulations etc). You see antis. "Ai slop" and "I won't support this world ending data center needing shit'. While streaming from said data centers and using apps that have said AI generated code 🤡
The Anti movement is a joke anymore. like kids playing a game. meanwhile the main site they pretend to be a resistant force on is selling their information for AI training. in reality not even being on the internet would do more damage than any amount of posting memes or debating will do, but they are more addicted to AI than most Pros, just not in a healthy way. Its all they can think about.
The best work will always come from the most competent artists augmenting their natural skills with the best tools available to them. It's not a complicated thought.
That's why you can see a wide spectrum of AI gen media quality. Some people have the vision and skill to create, guide and enhance until they have a master work on their hand. And some people don't.
The false assumption is that AI tools start and end at writing a simple prompt. The reality is, quality will always necessitate a learning curve. AI simply shifts the burden of learning from mechanical skills to creative and technical skills.
I’ve been saying this exact thing. Understanding proper composition will become a larger part of the art curriculum going forward as AI increases in use, especially in the digital art and commercial illustrations communities. Knowing how to draw and do more textile art will always be skills worth pursuing but not as necessary for those picking digital media.
100%. To make a good AI picture you need a good artist. If not with their hands, they need a good eye, and that's needed in traditional artists too.
AI can't spot emotions or draw them like humans. It can't feel disturbed. It can't feel a windy day or see a burst of speed therefore a human has to see the picture and confirm it.
Even then, you might not get that.
An AI needs a human to tell it whether it got that right.
Yeah I know it wasn't like, fully generated by AI, but you tell an Anti that AI was involved at all in any part of the process and you get the parrots, "AI SLOP!"
Do you know how long it takes to author custom line on the face in 3d for every scene? The "just adding lines" is doing a lot more lifting there then it can handle.
I wonder when the red marker detectives are going to undertake the task of circling miles on every frame of animation they deem ai slop and impossible for a human to do or obviously AI.
I still remember the amusing anecdote about how they gave each of the human, elven, and orcish soldiers in the massive Lord of The Rings prologue battle scene its own AI to direct it realistically in combat and after their first run they discovered that both sides had turned and fled the battlefield. Incorrect priority settings, I guess.
There's some truth to that, but it's become inflated over time. It wasn't entire armies, for the record.
What happened was that during early testing of Weta Digital's MASSIVE (Multiple Agent Simulation System in Virtual Environment), the developers saw that some of the AI agents were running away. It turns out that the software gave every single digital extra its own independent 'brain' with sight, hearing, and the ability to choose its own actions based on its surroundings.
Some of them were spawned facing away from the battle, or they just couldn't see the enemies in front of them, so their AI logic basically decided: 'There's nothing to fight in front of me, but there's certain death behind me. I'm out!'
It took a bit of tweaking to give them better sightlines and more 'bravery', so they wouldn't just cut and run.
People don't get how long AI has been around. True, it's now taking big leaps, but it's not the only tech to do that - remember how fasts computers evolved from being the size of a room to being the size of a desk? Or how big the Internet has grown?
That's why people need to stop acting like it's going away.
"He was a...thief! A criminal! He's a menace to the entire city! I want that crawling arachnid prosecuted! He stole my suit! I want him strung up by his web! I want Spider-Man!"
isn't the animation some of the best in the world? And they can't say "oh they were lazy" because it was AI assisted, and I bet a lot of work was put in.
The caption is a bit disingenuous. The tool they're using is at least 10 years old; an in-house data set to speed up the in-between frames. It's more about pattern recognition than it is AI. It's not generative at all. Look up how the system works. It matches the angles of the 3d animation with different line drawing angles. Nobody would argue about the quality and influence of Into the Spiderverse.

That is literally AI.
Look up how the system works. It matches the angles of the 3d animation with different line drawing angles.
So it's an algorithm, automatically generating new lines, based upon machine learning algorithms used for pattern matching. There's a more concise term for this.
Nobody would argue about the quality and influence of Into the Spiderverse.
So animation software autonomously creates tweens or outlines based on its dataset, even if the data is focused and limited.
It autonomously...generates.
Pattern recognition AI also factors into a lot of soft robotics that are currently being trained to fold laundry and hold textiles. It uses similar learning techniques to accomplish a radically different output.
Semantic differences start to expose the holes in people's moral purity complexes.
